Yes, It is me. I am actually doing stuff for the classic Doom engine again. Why? A number of reasons actually. Firt of all, I am trashing other people's work here all the time, and it's my pleasure to let you all trash mine. Only seem fair, right?

Second. I've always wanted to do something for Heretic, Hexen and Strife. And since I am not gonna do all three, I just settled with the one that would allow me to do the least bullshit, and the most actual work. (No scripts for the win)

Thirdond. After working solely on Doom 3 Phobos since I released Phobia in early 2006 I feel the need to work on something that is just mine and for once not as pretentious as a major scale project. This project is a playground for me where I just work w/o doing anything I don't want to do. (For instance, if I don't feel like working on it at all, I won't have to)

Firtond. A person with an ego the size of mine, need to demonstrate how awesome they are on occasion so they can measure their own worth as a human being.

The project itself is called Curse of D'sparil. It was the only name I could think of that didn't sound like something out of a porn novel and actually had some connection with Heretic's story. Though, I probably failed it anyway, since after you beat D'sparil in episode three, there's that expansion patch that lets you trudge through another two episodes. So I suppose that is meant to be the cursed part. But I can't recall the end story text for any of them.

The mod is aimed at limit removing, although I plan to have a Mapinfo in it so I can have some menial story shit slapped into it, but any Heretic version not supporting it will just ignore it and you'll not notice the difference anyway.

Currently I got three (3) maps going. Two of them being older maps that I had discontinued cause I was lazy or cause I couldn't play nice with the rest of the kids at Doom world. (I pulled it from the Heretic Treasure Pants project cause I didn't like that they went after the Hexen resources like a pack of retarded Hyenas)
The other I was making for a project that never got done. I just strapped it over with some Heretic textures and wish I could call it done. (it wasn't even half done at the time I stopped working on it)

First map of the WAD is the one I started working on before I went through my old files like a sack of dirty underwear, looking for something that wasn't quite as stinky as the rest. (That's not really true, I didn't have anything else to pick from. But I liked the metaphor) This map is almost finished, only missing one last area whereupon I will work on another map. (I suppose)

The wad is not planned to feature any new textures. Though I might make some where needed, like how I made a new sky texture since the old one didn't tile horizontally and mountains with sky beneath doesn't look that cool IMO.

Anyway, that's about it.

Oh yeah, and here's a screenshot: (Courtesy of imagesuck)

Notice all the sloppily aligned textures, I could fix that if I had the desire to, but I don't and now you can start criticizing and I'll pretend to care and be all upset and threaten to take my ball and go home.

Nice! Good to see people mapping for Heretic/Hexen again. I'm planning to do a little PWAD, not much, maybe three five-level episodes, but anyway, it's nice to see others pursuing similar goals.

No worries about the texture alignment. The map looks great.

As far as I can recall, the story after episode 3 of Heretic and before the beginning of Heretic II is essentially:

1. Corvus is lost.
2. Corvus is not at home.

So I'd say you can feel free to toss your own story into the middle of that.

By the way, the only Hexen resources in the Heretic Community Chest so far are a few rock textures, and that version of the resource wad still hasn't even been hosted by ler. So I'm not exactly sure what you mean, regarding "hyenas."

Awesome, I do like seeing Heretic projects. It's even better when you seem them completed :D

Screenshot looks pretty nice to me. The architecture is sorta different from what I would expect in a Heretic map, which is nice. I hope to see more!

You are missing what I said though, the fourth and fifth episode of Heretic was what I was talking about. Which logically should be dealing with that exile of Corvus that they talk about in the intro to Heretic 2.

I checked it out the other day, and I saw more than just a few rock textures. But not as much as I had expected. There were however an ungodly amount of hideous textures in there though, so I am concerned that people might use them.
Then there's also "I HAVE A HEXEN MUSIC IN MY MAP :D"

@Mechadon: Don't get your hopes up too high though. There's the possibility that the completed part won't come. Though I think it will. I have an everlasting tendency to not waste work by doing a lot more work to get it not wasted and being miserable in the process.

At the end of Episode3, D'sparil shouts something that Corvus couldn't understand. Of course, it was a curse and so the teleporter Corvus enters takes him to the lands conquered by D'sparil rather than home, Episode 4.

While Episode 5 was apparently D'sparil's stronghold and contains the pit that he along with some of the games other foes, according to the manual, were spawned from. The Maulotaurs at the end of the Episode were apparently D'sparil's former personal bodyguard and pissed at you.

Episode 5 ends with a "to be continued" text asking whether the portals that have opened will take you home or whether they will take you somewhere else.

Heretic 2 of course answers that question.

The end of episode 5 doesn't directly connect to the beginning of Heretic 2, nor does it resolve anything. There is a longer intermediary period of wandering, through dimensions more and more alien, in which Corvus' magical artifacts run out of energy and become useless, so he makes himself a wicked-sweet halberd. He is also slowly taught to use magic directly by his tome of power. Oh yeah - apparently tomes of power are sentient now, or something. Some retro-conning occurs.

I'll give you that - there are definitely some garish textures in there - but generally not from Hexen. A fellow stickler should be able to understand my need to clarify the matter.

For some reason, that made me think of Corvus wandering through dimensions, going "Corvus is lost and tired. Why Corvus not at home yet?". It was pretty funny to me.

Heh, unfortunately the Heretic 2 intro doesn't share that vision though. There Corvus are walking around with what appears to be a pain-splitting hernia and gait.

This sounds interesting, but are you seriously going to use only the base textures? To be perfectly honest, Heretic has very few textures, and the ones it has are repetitive.

But whatever, I like to see more Heretic projects.

THIS SCREENSHOT SUCKS AND I HATE IT AND IT MAKES ME FEEL BAD AND YOU SHOULD FEEL BAD TOO.
Just kidding.
Actually it looks pretty good. I really couldn't give a shit about the misaligned textures. I was too busy appreciating the good architecture and nice use of the heretic textures.

Yes it doesn't have as many textures as Doom One, but they're not too few either. There's a city scheme, a volcano scheme and a dome scheme. What else is needed?
Edit: why did you replace the head in the right of the statusbar? Or the colour of the teleglitter? If you did that, we won't be able to play it on Heretic Plus unless DeuSFed.

I still can't believe that you abandonned the Treasure Chest project only because I suggested for the Hexen textures to be added into it.

Anyways, good luck, man!
The more Heretic WADs that I'll get to see finished for this Christmas then the merrier the season will be.
So stay inspired and finish this off.

I doubt that, it's not sprites. Nor is it flats.

EDIT. Been working on trying to get my map to run in HerticP today. What a mess. I had omitted to change the standard new sector info in Doombuilder and had a number of BIGDOOR1 textures in the map. Doombuilder remained obstinate though stating "-I KNOW NOZHIN ABOUT ZHAT!"

So I cracked out my good old DETH editor (<3) and fixed those byugs. But for some reason, HereticP will play the map like it hadn't had it's nodes built, even if I did it manually with Zennode. Just checked in Legacy, same shit there. Must have missed something. O_o

EDIT again, must be tired. Noticed that I had the file open in DB.

EDIT EDIT: First 1 is done ftw, tested with HereticP(enis).

EDIT for the sake of any Dark Jedis in tah HOOOUUUSSSEEEE!
I didn't quit on it because you suggested that Hexen textures were to be used. I quit after a discussion with pretty much everyone involved and some not involved where the general consensus was that I was a fucking idiot for not thinking it was a great idea to ripp off Hexen.
While I thought the same about everyone who couldn't fathom making a map with the stock Heretic textures, as if every wall needed a new one. As well as music and anything else your heart would desire.
I didn't want to be a part of a group that shared that mentality.

EDIT again (last time): Looking at the thread from back then again, I didn't really find the discussion as I remember it. Maybe some of it was helled or something. Or I was experiencing it differently back then. I dunno. But when the leader accepted the use of ripped material, I didn't want to be involved anymore anyawy.

There really wasn't much storyline to either of them. Just two cases of 'i beat the bosses and the dimensional gateways still won't take me home' TWICE. So go with what you want really.

Just because the resource had Hexen textures and some other recoloured ones, doesn't mean you had to use them in your maps.

Still, the more Heretic wads there are the better. Especially multiple-map ones.

But I don't condone the practice, and it would be extremely hypocritical of me to partake in a project that do.

Glad to see so many Heretic projects lately (relatively speaking). Would you consider contributing work to a hypothetical "FreeHeretic"?

I think that's probably even better. I will transmit this information.

Am I missing a HereticWorld fansite ?

/me needs more Heretic maps, GULAG.WAD is not enough!

The story is essentially:

"I killed D'Sparil and he shouted some jibber jabber. Was that a curse or just a scream? Whatever I wanna go home - The Simpsons is gonna be on in half an hour!"
*FWOOSH*
"NOOOOOOO! I'M IN SOME OTHER PLACE!"
*One massacre later*
"Hooray a portal. Well, I can still get back in time to catch South Park on Comedy Central."
*FWOOSH*
"Damnit. Let's try this again.
*Epic Maulotaur Fight*
"Ppppppppaaaaaaaiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnn..."
*FWOOSH*
???

There's room to do more of him wandering in the "Outer Worlds" (that's what the E4 and E5 places are called).

Oh and according to Heretic II along the way Corvus lost his cloak (it was probably in shreds after all the fighting), turned his staff into a halberd, and apparently taught Tomes of Power how to talk and open dimensional gateways. Who knew?

The D'Sparil fight was too short. I wish they also did a 3D version of his original Heretic death. That has to be the most epic 2D death in all of videogame history.

Additionally, why'd you change the "human" head on the health bar?

Actually, the opening cutscene of Heretic II did show a 3D version of D'sparil's demise. And it had a big orange explosion when he was shouting his curse.

But, well, obviously some of you people weren't impressed by that and thought that it was crap.
*sigh*
To be honest, I enjoyed both Heretic games equally. It's only the community behind the second game which causes me to shake my fist in rage.
