windows sucks

Recommended Posts

on friday i had to restart windows because of a minor error. after it finished loading most of the stuff in my system tray began to crash. "what the hell!!" i yelled at the damn thing. then almost every other program i tried to run crashed as well. I then restarted and got the same thing. I then ran a virus scan, thinking this is the work of a nasty virus, to find no viruses. Then that crashed. Next i tried to look at the registry but the regedit command crashed. I finally said fuck it and purged windows. After a half hour i reinstalled it. I hate when windos pulls this kind of shit. this is the biggest registry error i have never had.

:: shrugs :: I've never had that big of a problem with Windows. Only that one time my mouse eventually stopped working altogether and I had to reinstall Windows. And for some reason everytime I defrag I seem to lose a few MB of space... Oh well.

I feel with you, sephiroth.

Hmm, what other OS we do have? OK, I stop it .)

Repairing the registery mostly does not work, better make a backup of this hell-file in good times. On the additional PC (which I bought just for ZDoom, so you see that I also need and use windoze if nothing helps) I use a little Dos programm for this job: COP

http://www.bootdisk.com/hardcore/cop22.exe

This little app, which stores your vital system files in a folder in your C:/, can also be run from a bootdisk and allows to restore all the files Windoze needs (win.ini, config.sys, etc.). This really works, try it - it may save you next time.

Hahah, that sure sucks all right buddy. I remember this one time I had just finished reinstalling Windows and I got the most bizarre error about 3 reboots in.

The registry was MISSING. I don't know who, how, why or when but the damn thing just vanished. You ought to see Windows run then, it's great.

People like my friends and stuff always complain that they have to reinstall Windows or format their HD because Windows is always crashing on them. They always complain that it's so buggy and crashes too much.

Well buddy, that's completely your problem. I have had Windows on this comp for 4 years and counting, and have never had to reinstall it or format it. The only times it has screwed up is because my HD was worn out once and I had to get a new one, but Windows has never done anything as serious as a problem.

People always seem to think that when there computer screws, they have to format everything to fix it. Well, people are stupid. 99% of problems can be fixed without going to this extreme. Once even my friend suggested that I should format because my ICQ crashed and the blue screen came up. I just about slapped him. I just reset and the problem was fixed. Done. And look, I haven't had any problems since.

Now you must be thinking, this guy probably has nothing big installed, and he probably never installs big problems and such. Well, I have quite a lots of large applications and internet progs that take up a lot of RAM when I run them all at once. People who tend to do this have the most problems as they keep on uninstalling and reinstalling lots of things, fucking up their registry. A common problem is deleting a program by just removing the folder, and forgettign to do the correct uninstall. I've seen professionals do this and it makes me want to slap em. I am not a technician or professional but I manage to have no problems.

Oh and btw, Linux? Don't make me laugh. It is the most worthless OS around. Oooh wow it doesn't crash. Big shit. It is too complicated to use and has no user friendly interface in it. I installed it on a spare p75 in my room, and was looking at the steps to change screen resolution. Fuck, you had to edit like 3 text files with this useless text editor and reset the comp and all this. Windows: right click on the display icon in the systray and pick your resolution. It changes instantly without resetting your comp. Linux is good for server hosting, and that's about it. People that are like "WINDOWs su><0r MAC RULES" or something similar need to realize that Windows has advantages over every friggin feature you could point out in those.

I will admit that Windows is getting to be a bit of a memory-hog OS as each new version comes out. So you know what? Stay with win95 or 98SE for the time being. I personally have 95b which is perfect and I have used 98SE and find it to be very nice as well. Well, I've written quite a lot so I'll stop now... getting kind of bored...

And that's my two cents.

Think of the registry as a big holding center for ini or cfg files. All the information that most programs have like options and shit is stored in here, separate of the files in the program folder. Personally I don't like the idea, ini and cfg files are the way to go, you don't have to go around different places trying to delete shit for one program. The registry should only be used for windows option or something.

Yeh, windows pisses me off sometimes, but if you ask me, you're better off with win95 or 98 than with mac or linux. I actually don't have too many horrible problems with windows, actually, other than the times when for some reason I click on my doom program and everything on the desktop suddenly selects and then I have to close through just about every game and program on my computer to get to the one I want...

The comp i'm on right now (my dad's not mine) is a different story. Half the time when you boot it up it will give you an error that kills almost all of the system tray icons until you successfully reboot. And I get that error sometimes after fully booting as well. Not to mention how much IE crashes...

yes i have had windows on computers for 6 years with out a reformat. I can fix most probs in windows with out a reformat. however the last system i fixed i had to replace windows because it was so fucked up. My dad never turns the thing off. constantly installs and delets and went 4 years with out a scandisk or defrag. This system was on its knees, system resources never got above %60, the win.ini and registry were full of useless garbage and most of it i did not know if it was still being used or was part of something. finaly i just formated to save me time and energy, also i updated to 98. most problems can be fixed without a format but sometimes it is just easier to format than to fuck with the registry

one word, BeOs
its the way to go man.
flawless. o yah, has a linux command line built in!!!
1 reason why it is better s when you put the disk in and the cd, a dui pops up and asks you to install, you click yes, and it copies in about 10 minutes. after that, you hit quit and it pops the cd out and restarts and runs perfectly with all the accesories and everything is configured. first time around, it took me less than a minute to put it on the network. also, also, has support for more than 1 processor and its fast. my p100 boots faster than my p2 333. about 50% faster to be exact.i had it running for about 3 years now and never had not one singl error. also, an error in one program will never affect another program. example, if i am playing doom dor beos, and it crashes and the program freezes up, i can use other programs while the game is frozen. i dont know about you but, i think bill gates could bet some ideas from the people at beos.

/me shrugs
Windows has crashed on me more times than I care to remember or think about.
Windows95 crashed on me so I switched to Windows98 in early '99. Windows98 crashed on me the other day, but I just rebooted the damn thing.
It's Windows, it's gonna crash, get used to it.

funny, i had a relivent thoiught prior to this form.
yeah, so windows me is close to a gig in size. What the fuck? Windows 95 was only about a hundread megs and less if you installed the bare components. If windows is getting so technologically advanced, then wouldn't it make more sense to have an os that is smaller in size so we can cram more porn onto our system.

yeah, windows registry sucks

windows likes to take over the boot process at every opportunity, use loadlin and a kernel image (probably on your linux CDs if you used them) to get back to linux then run lilo as root to restore it.

Thats just the point. Operating Systems arent SUPPOSED to crash. I've been using Linux now on my desktop for about 6 months and it hasnt crashed once. Whenever I use windows now I find myself getting incredibly irritated with it. And its not just the stability that is great. Some of the benefits I find:

As a UNIX system the layout and structure of the system generally makes a lot more sense than in Windows.

As a programmer I find the API a lot nicer and friendlier.

The programs on the system are generally a lot more configurable - Windows ones tend to be dumbed down. If they dont do what I want I can modify the source to MAKE them do what I want because the entire system is Open Source.

As for "user friendly interfaces" - the command line, which is where I do most of my stuff anyway, is something like a million times more powerful than the windows command line and once you know the basics, I'd say faster and more intuitive to use than any Windows GUI. The desktop environments are nonetheless becoming better and better if you want that.

And as for how to change resolution, you press ctrl-alt-+. You dont even NEED to mess around clicking on the desktop and opening windows up.
