I once wrote a 6-th order Chebychev filter simulation. In Excel. Using double sets of columns to emulate complex numbers, and broke down formulas into real and complex part BY HAND before entering them in cells, so that I could "chain" the various stage's responses.
I had additional columns for modulo and phase next to every "output stage", and used them to make Bode plots using standard Excel plots. And all that because I was too lazy to install Matlab. The scariest thing of all? It worked ;-)
...but did you do it uphill both ways?
