Heh, by the same line of thought, the SP community is also fragmented beyond repair, with all the competing standards and implementations. And so is Linux, with its hundreds of distros. But it's not BSD that's causing this, it's people who want choice and freedom, which aren't possible with a single one-size-fits-all solution.
I mean, all these codebases could be 100% open-source and you'd still have fragmented userbase. They could all be 100% close-source and the same thing would happen.
Incidentally if someon takes your BSD code and implements some interesting features, then releases it closed-source, what's to stop YOU from implementing those same or simillar (maybe even superior) features. I mean, assuming those features are even worthwhile to begin with.
