This is a listing of the old /newstuff and Old Stuff Chronicles pages on Doomworld, or what I found, at least. Some of the Chronicles were lost back when Doomworld's database broke (and unfortunately as time went by some pages were overwritten by new news items.) Some of the pages I linked aren't from the old news update entries, so they don't include any reader comments, but at least they have the reviews.

/newstuff

The earliest /newstuff Chronicles gave a detailed description of a single release. Later the /newstuff Chronicles became a scope of all the new releases during a week or period (as they are now.)

Another thing that might be of interest to /newstuff Chronicles readers is the old news on when CDROM.COM closed /idgames, and later when /idgames reappeared at 3dgamers.com:

A. /idgames Closed Temporarily

D. /idgames Glitch Hopefully Fixed

If you want a list of the newer /newstuff Cronicles, the ones that are part of the Forums (#74 and on), just make a Forums search for */newstuff Chronicles* restricting the search to the Doomworld News Forum and to thread titles only.

Old Stuff

As for the Old Stuff Chronicles, these are the expositions Linguica and Matt Dixon did in the years 2000 and 2001 of a number of early releases of historical importance.

You mean Sunday 07/23/00? I wasn't sure if there was any before that... I even had this vague feeling maybe you had done a couple of Chonicles before AndrewB started, but there I'm possibly getting the wrong impression from the Old Stuff's case, where you started and then Matt continued.

I see that first one does show on the older (in-depth) Chronicles listing though...

No. I meant an index, like, one that was actually maintained actively. I think somebody had a script that automatically read new new/oldstuff articles and mirrored them. Fraggle, maybe?

Not fraggle. If he ever did, he doesn't now (as far as I can see.) I have searched for such an archive, since I felt there might've been one, both back when I made the post and just now, but search engines are silent about it if it does exist.

Reading those old posts is strange. AndrewB seems like a perfectly chipper individual with positive comments about topics. Now all I read from him is cynical posts and harsh sarcasm on everything there is to say.

By the way and more importantly, the reason I'm posting is because I've updated the initial post with the missing Old Stuff entries. You can also see the same list on the page I made on Doom2.net, which also includes separate links to all the wads originally linked in the articles (some of which were otherwise unavailable now or have broken links.)

Note that gather2 (one of the wads reviewed) can also be found here.

A little while ago I was looking for the /newstuff review of Decaying Manse (a new wad by the same author is currently in /newstuff), but it seems it must have been in the issue that appeared on 01/21/01, and this fell in between the pages stored at web.archive.org.

Some of the old urls point to ftp.cdrom.com which no longer hosts the idgames archive. To make downloading easier, I edited my hostfile to redirect ftp.cdrom.com to 157.91.30.116 which is the IP for 3darchives.in-span.net. Just thought this might be helpful to some people.

Well this sure brings back memories... reminds me of a time where Doom 3 was made for GeForce3 cards, Pablo Dictter was a promising designer and you could write things like "A single map for Heretic inspired by the famous series of books known as "Lord of the Rings." in /nc reviews and people would still have to think twice about what books the writer was actually talking about. Ohh yes, those were the days allright.
