Lets brainstorm wad ideas...

Lets go crazy and all together brainstorm ideas for wads. I'll say one thing, or a concept, and someone else can add to it, or put down their own concept, mix concepts etc. Could it be fun??? Theres a possibility.

Okay!
I have an idea for a wad thats set in a gigantic computer. You have to battle the demons (who are the computer virus) through wires and circuits and stuff, and you must make your way to the CPU. When you blast the CPU the whole computer ruptures. You must then escape the computer via an escape ship- a floppy disk.

any other ideas???

I've always been partial to the whole "your a white blood cell and you must eliminate the viral threat from your bloodstream". Think of how awesome that would be. Just red corridors with red blobs all around, and all interconnecting into the heart. Then you just kill the viruses and save your body from harm and other assorted health problems!

It's not. I've been having similar ideas. Wouldn't that be grat to traverse through human oranism? See our organs from inside? Maybe someone could make something like that. I don't even dream of having the whole vein system to be accesable; but entering a liver, ar a lung, or a heart, even if this was just a bloody pulp, could be amazing - if done well.

Oh, and I always wanted to see a mod for Doom, in which you're one of the demons and slay marines, scientists, and other, rampaging demons, which belong to other Hell Lords. There used to be something like that released here (sory, I will NOT spell the name of this shit), but it just didn't met my requirements.
If I was making something like that, there would be some interesting story, showing the life of the daemons player would have been given the ability to aquire new skills and power. Say: from Imp's fireballs to Baron's Bruise attack.

I pretty much always want to save the world, whatever the reason.
What I really would like to see in Doom are spectacular battles and scenes, like:

-being chased by a huge armored mobile while escaping on the train, and bullets from everywhere, and enemy soldiers jumping on Your train and You still have to blow this huge pile of metal!

-A hot motorbike chase in all it's glory-shooting, raging through streets, omitting obstacles and explosions

-Cleaning out a speeding spaceship while running away from a blazing fire just behind You, still moving forward until You blow up the cannon that was just about to destroy earth! Rrrraaaa!! :)

-Walking onto a surface of a HUGE spaceship and it starts floating higher and higher into the air, finally a dome of atmosphere surrounds it and a large door opens to reveal a hi-tech alien city.

A shipwreck populated with terrorists, complete with requisite swimming sections, jumping across fallen crates, and having to stay out of the ocean so you don't get eaten. You start on an iceberg, and need to make your way to the bridge of the wrecked ship to raise the distress beacon. Naturally the terrorists would have increasingly nasty weaponry the higher up you get on the ship - they'll start with their stupid Desert Eagles, go up to shotguns, AK's, bazookas, miniguns, and eventually a guy decked in huge battle armor with lasers and railguns and crap.

Anyway, how about one where you're on a demonic spaceship, and it's headed towards Earth, and it's really heavily defended, and of course it's up to you and you alone to stop the demonic menace yada yada yada. There'd be a lot of skintek, tekwall4, blood and Satanic imagery, not to mention lots of dead bodies and hanging corpses. Oh and some wall consoles that are leaking blood, lots of bleeding pipes, chunks of wall broken off to reveal glowing machinery intertwined with lots of flesh and blood and a lot of flashing lights, like the demons just half-assed the lighting. That's always cool.

actually i had an idea for a porn wad.

-WARNING-PORN RELATED- KIDS LEAVE NOW-

I know i know... porn wads HAVE been done before, but i had some pretty funny ideas. Instead of the invisibility sphere, a big rain coat. And changing the colour of the blood when you get hurt on your face to a white-ish off-yellow. Instead of Armour it'll read 'protection', health would read 'libido', arms would read 'toys', ammo would read 'jizz'. Yep.

1920's Chicago. Tommyguns and mobsters and cop shootouts etc. Maybe a level on the back of a moving truck (if anyone's played Mafia, like that game).

what about some community wad building ideas. I like Ling's idea of editing an existing map and deleting everything in the map except the things, and then rebuilding a totally new/different level around the things. You don't move any of the things, either, even teleport landings.

We should brainstorm an idea for a new wad editing contest like the 10 sectors one that was done a while back. It needs to be something simple - easy to follow - like the 10 sector restriction was - a challenge, but not something real daunting like some of the ideas you guys had. They were interesting, but logistically to make them happen would be pretty hard.

The contest has to use existing textures. It should just involve mapping - not making new textures or enemies etc. Any ideas?

What about..

You are an ant warrior, and must protect the queen, workers, eggs, in diferent situations from invaders(like inside the hive, arround the queen, or outside, arround the workers), with the help of other fellow warrior ants.

About your contest idea, what about the contest for the best boss arena, with the limit that you are just allowed to place one monster in the whole map (no icon of sin).

So the boss is either a baron or cyb or spidey mastermind? Sounds good.

I didn't like e4m8 for that reason: that it was such a long level to get to the boss. E1M8 is the quintessential boss level. Not too long - and not too short.

EDIT: What about this: You have to make a level with only one monster, and the challenge and point of the contest being you have to come up with creative ways of how to make this one monster hard to beat.

So let's say you picked a revenent. The use of lots monster only teleports would probably be the easiest way to do it, aside from sticking you in a tiny room with just a pistol... which would lead you to some rules....

If you pick a former human... there are no restrictions.

Seargent: no restrictions

Imp: ... well, let's cut to the chase... let's have only certain monsters allowed, since really easy monsters are ponitless and boss monsters are a bit ... well, they defeat the purpose of the exercise/challenge.

Certain enemies would have complete exclusion: imps... actually, let's do it like this: (talk about brainstorming...)

Each monster is represented by a certain amount of points. And you are only allowed to have, let's say, 1000 points worth of monsters in your level. Imp would be 50, mancubus 750, archvile, mmm... 650 etc...

and then maybe powerups, health and weapons would have opposite point effect: a medkit would allow you to have another 500 points worth of monsters. rocket launcher 1000, box of rockets 500 etc. etc. Be hard to get all those points balanced, but, heh, could make for an interesting mapping experience.

And then each monster would not be allowed to be put in certain sized rooms. So, smaller monsters might not have a restriction, but a mancubus or revenent -- you wouldn't be allowed to stick the player and the monster in a 80x48 box.. :)

Hope that brainstorm was somewhat followable....

wad ideas

What about if you play as a Space Alien soldier who is fighting off the legions of Hell?

We could have a story set in the 19th century (Earth years) but to the Aliens eyes it's set in the Orion-29th century. The story of the game is simialr to the original Doom where Doom Alien gets sent to Mars base to clear up the Hell spawn. After going through Hell the Alien marine finds himself in 19th century London (Doom 2 story starts to kick in)

Bump the brainstorm...

What we need is a SIMPLE but fun premise for a community wad competions (ala 10 sector wad)

How about the Honey Comb wad? All your sectors must be regular six sided hexagons (all sides must be the same length) with the possibility of requiring all the sectors to be the same size so that they all interlock. However, different sizes would allow for more interesting and varied results.

What about something productive for the developer DOOM comunity, a contest for the best new monster (for Zdoom 63), you can submit modified creatures already made, but not untouched ones (the more you apart from an existing design the more merit you receive).

How bout a wad where u control a few types of monsters, each with different attacks and "abilities". YOu play one at a time, but you play with each monster for a few levels then it automatically changes to another monster for the next few. It can take place in a few different locations, and like the monsters have to meet up or something at the end, and the last few levels you play as each different monster consecutively (last stages are ones with bosses).

I'm not sure all what that was all about, but it sounded interesting and original and cool :p

Vageta: I think that, too, is a cool idea. Specially since there isn't enough monster mods in doom. But for me, personally, I'd like to see something on the order of mapping, as that's the only thing I really know how to modify in doom.

I like the honeycomb/hexagon idea, heck, I might actually make that one. Instead of all the rooms being hexagon, though (I once walked through a middle-school which was exactly like that, and it was confusing), it would be a Metal Gear Solid 2-style "Big Shell" with hexagonal "struts" containing traditional box rooms.
