The max blockmap size is 64KB. One thing that can help is ZenNode's blockmap compression.

Those "bad graphics" are actually taken from kdizd, So your basically saying the original kdizd graphics were bad.

This is so unbelievably trollish I facepalmed too. I was unaware that "everyone" hated it? Must be why that, when I nominated it for one of the best wads of the year, there were very few complaints. KDiZD is not without its share of problems and complaints, but it is hardly loathed. In fact, 3 and a half stars on the idgames review board is a pretty decent score.

Still, I will love to see what Essel and the team can create. More wads = more fun.

I've always thought Doom to be more blocky than blurry, anyway, especially when compared to opengl ports...

You can't play this wad in any port or any program except doom.exe so there's really no use for you to keep posting in this thread, it won't change, sorry dude!

Umm. in case the opening post was too deceiving for you, making kdizd vanilla compatible would mean making it compatible with ALL PORTS. not just vanilla doom or zdoom.

Or at least all those that support/don't break vanilla features. Most notably dehacked, but there are other things too.

It is completely feasible to make a vanilla-compatible wad that doesn't work in pretty much any port. Let's see: a spechits overflow-dependent exit (cf. Strain map07) means it only works with prboom-plus or Chocolate, and then you can add in some sort of error that Doom2.exe doesn't mind but that causes a crash in those ports. That would be a pretty stupid thing to do, of course.

Even I don't believe this. I think you mean "Vanilla compatible maps". You would be a fool to use Doom2.exe... especially since it barely runs on modern hardware. Chocolate, PRBoom, Boom, hell... even ZDoom is 100% vanilla compatible.

Thanks! It's a challenge, but most things aren't as impossible as they seem if you've got a bit of creativity with how they can be pulled off :)

He said he didn't care much which map he was doing, though you can ask him yourself if you want to be sure :p
