Don't worry; I remembered to keep making DP maps... =P

Update: The next map in Dark Plutonia is now essentially complete. This time was map22, "Impossible Mission." That was the slime-factory type map. It had this cute part were there was a row of chaingunners facing away from you with a row of exploding barrels behind it and you could coax a hell knight into blowing them all up for you =D. This map used every enemy type except Lost Souls.

The recreation of this map is a slime factory as well. Like I thought, this was one of the toughest remixes, so I didn't get to add quite as much as I wanted within time constraints, but it's still a pretty nice-looking composition. I had to resist the temptation to name this map "Mission Impossible." Anyway, the map is called "Success Probability: Zero."

And so, here's what it looks like. I'm in a good mood today, so four screenies for you =D: [Outdated]
I'd say the world is DOOMed. With this kind of slime-producing technology, there's no way to stop the demons now. =(
Though I don't understand why the demons seem to want slime so badly...
They thought their walls of bones were pretty cool too...

This project is nearing completion. I haven't had the blocks of time available to remix maps like I did when I began in February, but at least we've been managing a 4-day period between mapping sessions recently.

Oh, and 21/32 --> 66% completion. YAY! Two-thirds done! =D

Ah, map 22. That map comprised equally of frustrating gameplay, pretty good-looking parts and ugly parts. Your screens look better than the original though, since it was one of the plutonia maps I didn't like.

I also remember the level as being surprisingly long for plutonia.

Update: The next map in Dark Plutonia is now essentially complete. The number this time around was 4, "Caged." That was the map where (not surprisingly) the player spend almost the entire time in caged walkways. This is one of two maps that follow a dominantly METAL theme. Furthermore, it appears the Plutonia Bros. were on a mission to use every single one of doom's METAL textures in this map.

The DP map, titled "Entanglement," follows the cage + lots of METAL theme pretty faithfully. While I was mapping this, it didn't seem to be going well since this style of map is basically just one large subdivided room, but once complete it played very well. I managed to recreate the tight, fast-moving nature of the original fairly well. I guess it's one of those "greater than the sum of its parts" things.

Anyway, your screenies:[Outdated]
This map has a lot of ledges and catwalks...
It also has a lot of cages.
This could lead to some interesting battles. >=D

I appear to be getting behind the schedule I intended. Sorry about that everyone. I'll do my best to get this quarter's last two maps up by the weekend.

A final note -> 22/32 69% completion. Just 10 more maps to do.

wow, you are good. caged was a pretty good map, reminiscent of doom2 map 26 the abandoned mines (to me at least) and a fun map to play too. this one looks impressive as usual. by the way, dont fret too much about being a little behind schedule, quality over quickness i say.

Indeed I agree...no need to hurry :). Anyways Caged was one of those maps I really liked and seemed to remember the best in Plutonia. Yours looks pretty cagey...but maybe not quite as cagey as the original. Still, I'll be looking forward to it.

Update: The next map in Dark Plutonia is now essentially complete. The map for today was Map15 ,"The Twilight." This was the other metal and cages map (convenient doing both in a row. =) Over half the enemies on the map were chaingunners. It also had hidden arch-viles to resurrect a few in a central location. With 19 official secrets, it had the highest secret count of any of Plutonia's maps. Actually, the way the secrets were tagged gave you credit for several of them multiple times, but even so there were still 10 secrets.

Dark Plutonia's map again follows suit with the theme pretty closely. Since this is map15, it could be thought of as a more violent version of map04, with the same "nowhere to hide" sort of gameplay. Slightly less than half of this versions enemies were chaingunngers as well. I even managed to get 3 spiderdemons in the map despite their large 128x128 size.

Anyway, screenies of "The Dusk": [Outdated]
Our favorite Plutonia theme: metal and cages =)
A cramped area for you to kill things in...
I hope you figure out how to get that BFG9K. >=D

So we're still getting there. You people are right, I shouldn't rush to get this done when I'm not inspired because it will probably show. But it is hard to come up with cool ideas for remixes after doing 23 already. I'll try to get inspired faster so as to not keep you people waiting too long. =(

23/32, 72% completion. Just 9 more speedmaps to go.

I've been slacking on this, but fear not, I'm still making maps for DP.

Update: The next map in Dark Plutonia is now essentially completed. The map for this update is 10, "Onslaught." This map had a chaingunner right behind you at the beginning of the map. All three of the keys were in the same rooms as the doors they went to, so you apparently pick them up to entertain some sort of fight. Like map20, this map also had a sewer-esque area on the outskirts.

I'm actually quite pleased with DP's version, titled "The Unending Horde" (actually, UV only has 150 demons, but "The Horde of a Finite Number" does not sound very scary, does it?) It was nice and quick just like a Plutonia map should be. Like the original, the SSG is only for the very last fight, so most of this map is with the shotgun and chaingun. And of course this map features some of Plutonia's favorite setups (hidden Arch-viles resurrecting chaingunners, walls openning with mancubi and revenants, etc... don't worry, I didn't make these very obnoxious.)

And your screenies:
Here's the start room, with a trickier setup than the original
http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/217/screenshotdoom200805270is8.png
And the sewer with the tech-ish area in it
http://img149.imageshack.us/img149/5082/screenshotdoom200805270hl5.png
Well, at least getting them to infight shouldn't be that hard if they don't teleport...
http://img149.imageshack.us/img149/5518/screenshotdoom200805270jo5.png

And... 24/32, 75% completion. That's THREE-QUARTERS COMPLETION!!! =D

As a reflex I went to press tab to look at the map. Didn't work though.. Onslaught was one of my favorite 3 or so levels I think. Another was speed (but some speedrunners said they dislike speed in their demo text files. Maybe its more fun for.. 'speed'.. than max. Vile did a cool rocket jump death/exit on speed.)
One of the included game demos was for onslaught (those included plutonia demos were the first I saw that played with a more hard core speedrun mentality which made the game more fun).

Update: The next map in Dark Plutonia is now essentially complete. The map today was map25, "The Temple of Darkness." That was the map with the red area with a lava-ish floor at the beginning. There was an imp mob gurading the blue key on multiplayer. Well, actually, this map is hard to describe... my screenies should be more clear which map I remixed.

I decided to make DP's take on the map more abstract than the original... so "Oracle" and "Tragedy of the Mind" wouldn't feel all alone as the only abstract/surreal maps =). The map has like 230 enemies on UV, so I was a bit worried about the tempo. However, I was very pleased to see that the map could be completed in under 9:00, which is what one would expect in a Plutonia-style map.

And so... your screenies of "The Shadowrealm." 4 since I'm going so slow:
Can you remember the only map that used the red texture?
http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/3110/screenshotdoom200806020kj1.png
Yeah... abstract
http://img528.imageshack.us/img528/261/screenshotdoom200806020nc4.png
This room has a similar setup as the original, but different enemy types.. should be interesting. >=)
http://img528.imageshack.us/img528/245/screenshotdoom200806020cx1.png
I think you'll have plenty to keep you busy.
http://img528.imageshack.us/img528/8707/screenshotdoom200806020bi5.png

I hope I can find a suitable creepy/wierd midi to fit a similarly bizarre/creepy theme. hmm... Now, I wonder about the blue sky. It established the mood I was after, but red and blue are opposing colors. I think it looks good with the lower lighting in the first 2 screenies, but maybe a bit off with the brighter lighting in the bottom one. Oh, well. The default red one's always there if this gets too wierd. Since I have a conflicting opinion, I guess I'll hear you people's. =)

Anyway, 25/32, 78% completed. The box that I'm pulling numbers out of started out filled to the top. Now there are only a few paper slips left on the bottom collecting dust. That's a good sign. =)

Wow it reminds me some of TV's stuff for Plutonia 2... Looks forward for this map (I like surreal themes as I'm an Alice fanatic =)
It's nice that you try to make some abstract stuff, because it makes you free enough to use your creativity when the inspiration is out for a simple remixe. But it's also an occasion to keep the player's attention until the end of the megawad :)

Hell, what about that spinach space sky? That was the best and mustn't be deleted!

Not to forget the Doom2-city-in-red-sky wonder that really -- fits Plutonia too well. Please think about it as well.

This bluesky tends to monochrome. 1/3 megawad would be with a monochr sky, and no eerie space or evil city.

All right, a while back, I promised that the next map I made would be for Dark Plutonia, and I still remember that promise. So here it is. I did map06, "The Baron's Lair", which was the one with the mysterious weapon-granting skull cube at the start. Here is where you see the first Cyb in Plutonia. Since the first Cyb is on map01 in Dark Plutonia, this is where you first encounter more than one Cyb.

Screenshots of "The Dark Side":
I'm quite proud of this fight. As far as arachnotron fights go, I rather liked this one.
http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/4425/screenshotdoom200806302sf9.png
Here's the end of the map.
http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/8051/screenshotdoom200806302ta1.png
Here's the room where you get the blue key.
http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/9360/screenshotdoom200806302xr2.png

To be honest, the reason why I was in such a rush to get done by May is because if I failed, the time I would have to work on this would be dramatically decreased. I don't want to release this partially completed or abandon it, so for now the project has an indefinite release date. =( I've got a bit more time now, so I might be able to do some more with this soon, though.

26/32, 81% completion, not that this means much without a rigid schedule...

Nice screens ! Plutonia map06 was one of my favorites. Don't worry about the delay of release : the most important is that you have pleasure at making maps.
