I'm just using Hexen/Heretic II music.

You'd be surprised but with all the DOOM Engine purists around here everybody hates Hexen II. :(

I thought it was amazing, especially engine wise, compared to the original Quake engine.

No one here hates on Hexen 2 for being on the Quake engine. We hate on it cause it was a shitty sell out game. Instead of getting the game Romero had planned (Hecatomb) we got a shitty sequel to Hexen instead.
And later they made another shitty sequel to Heretic. That's two shitty sequels and no Hecatomb.

Heretic II was indeed crap, I wouldn't say Hexen II was. At least it felt truer to the original Hexen than Heretic II was to Heretic.

I play Hexen II Multiplayer Deathmatch every Saturday night with a friend and a few bots. I can never get bored of it. It's just such an eternal and ageless experience. :)

And about Heretic II... The online community for that game is filled with a bunch of discriminating assholes. They banned me from their forum just because I had a different taste in music than them, and just because I was a fan of Sonic the hedgehog.
Seriously.

But gameplay-wise, Heretic II had some very cool weapons, such as the Sphere Of Annihilation. And the textures with dynamic lighting effects were totally awesome, IMO.

But basically yeah, Hexen II and Heretic II are the only Quake-engine games that I like.
I really hate the Quake game series, it's such a retarded mess.

I hated Quake as a game on its own. I only love it because its engine led to the birth of Half-Life (best game ever, the origiand its mods) and that its multiplayer scene led to the creation of the epic Team Fortress series (of which I have played since QWTF).

Hey!
Just wanted to say I will be on holiday for the next two weeks so if there should be an update call, dont delete my slot, as you could see my map is finished, there are just a few smaller things that need to be fixed.

Still can't load my WAD via parameters even though the DOS loading screen says it and resource.wad are mounted.

Either way my map is about half done designwise, afterwards I'll go back and add detail. Though I generally am the "perfect room 1, move on, perfect room 2, move on" type of person.

Screens of what I have so far will be up in a bit.

P.S. Ler, are you aiming for a certain deadline? Or are we just going at any speed so long as the mappers are still working?

I'd like to be done by december but it's looking like it might take longer. There's not a huge big deadline, though, like with CC4.

I still think this could make December but it just means that a couple people will have to pull up their socks and get to it. Though, life can get in the way.

Based on your list at the first page of this thread I am extremely tempted to think that it will get finished EXACTLY IN December.
Why would you want to finish BEFORE December anyways?
Nothing exciting ever happens in November.

that sucks but don't give up hope !!! You might be able to recover the map

You can use Recover My Files to help recover files which were accidentally deleted or even files which where on a drive but removed due to formatting, by searching for the filename
maybe someone can help provide some free alternative or try searching yourself

If there comes a time when you want to do something, anything in particular: Never, ever give up for anything short of the instantaneous end of all of existence ever getting in your way. It was never any of the people who bow out in defeat before obstacles who were responsible for any of the mods that the wide-eyed, fresh young newbies will sit down and play and, seeing the love put into the worlds therein, from the easter eggs, to the little touches, from the ones that stand out inside the nooks and crannies, to the ones you have to hunt down and are rewarded more than any secret area, feeling heartwarmed, and sometimes laughing it up with the injokes or anything else, to the visual noise that beats out rooms stuck together then swathed with sector detail like a spastic with a set of multicoloured paint cans by far, and once they reach the great conclusion, the story's wrapped up and they've won, the credits have rolled, and the developer's room or the big To Be Continued has shown up at the end, and everything ends in a proper sense of finality, they think to themselves "I can do something just like this. I know that I can." Awe-struck. Inspiredly.

No, it was the people who, sometimes even blindly repetitiously so, try in the face of anything and everything. There are reformats. There are hard drive crashes and silly stupid editor mishaps. And, sometimes.. your computer is stolen. No matter what, you trip on an obstacle, you get up, dust yourself off, and keep on going.

It's for the better. In the past I've had my share of computer failures. A TFC map I had been working on with a friend for two months was lost entirely.

We are now doing a spiritual replacement map, and we're glad we've started over - we've been able to put more detail and attention into everything, and we never would have if we didn't get this second chance.

Hey guys, I've got great news.

I've started over my map for E5M8, and its almost completely finished now. The other map was entirely too big to be compatible with Heretic+ so I didn't have much choice. I will still definitely be releasing it on its own under the same name.

E5M8 - Cataclysm:
8042 sidedefs
666 sectors [woo]
1453 things
133 enemies [eight minotaurs]

Looking good indeed. Now, this map entitled Cataclysm is the one and only one you are submitting? Just making sure because I have a couple other level names of maps by you. Garden of Arrakis and Vulcan Wasteland are the ones I have done but I assume they are no longer valid.

No, they're not valid. Cataclysm is my only map for HTC. (vulcan wasteland was the working title for the last htc map, back when it was still e5m7. garden of arrakis was the first build that didn't go very far).

If all the maps seems to get finished by december, I vote that we release it at 23. December. That's Heretic's birthday and it would be a fine date to release this project.

E4M8 layout is coming along fairly well, I could perhaps improve upon aesthetics but so far here's some quick screenshots.

Starting area.

Random junk outside of The Keep.
http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/6458/screenshotheretic200810xz8.th.png

The fountain in the central chamber. When the green key is acquired, steps will raise to allow you to climb the fountain (NOTE: the structure around the teleporter will initially be raised to avoid Wings of Wrath abuse).

Pillar.
http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/9114/screenshotheretic200810nd2.th.png

The antechamber when entering the keep from the east side.
http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/6775/screenshotheretic200810am7.th.png

Layout so far. WIP on the east side, boss arena (not in picture, was not happy with it and am redoing it), and more non-linear hallways and stuff.

I think the main area I need to improve is ceiling detail...especially in the large hallways and whatnot, it gets tricky.

I like this idea. This could be an unofficial Heretic 2, considering how many levels have been made for it.

You mean a Heretic III...

But if it should be something like this it should also have some new gameplay features and i guess this would not be possible.

Nah, I don't think so. Raven Software's own Heretic II had a very different gameplay. Heretic III would be the continuation of the story, picking it up from where Heretic II left... This is obviously not the case.

Call it Heretic Bis if you want. :p
