Teleporting in Doom is slow. Anything that teleports in is static for a second. Maybe you need to train your reflexes?

As that didn't fit with how I remembered it I went and took 2 minutes to whip up a quick test map: linky.

Start map, don't move. Trying in PrBoom+ with 25% speed you can clearly see there isn't even .2 of a second after teleporting, if at all, before the baron starts his attack sequence or moves.

I suppose it's only players teleporting that are slow.

But still, you got a lot of time to react to that big guy lifting his hand to strike.

I was really enjoying this up until

spoiler - highlight to read:

two barons teleported in front of me
and swatted me dead. Teleporting monsters in front of player is cheap. It's also been done before quite a bit. It's really becoming a pet peeve of mine, not to mention that it's cheap. Also, it's really rather cheap to [blah blah blah]

Learn to react faster. Whenever something teleports in front of me, I dodge backwards or to the side. Unless it's a fucking Cyberdemon that teleports behind me and immediately shoots! (damn that Kama Sutra "Traps" map)

I`ve been tracking your wad since release of E1, and now I have 3 Episodes of classic fun. Good jobe, thanx for nice megawad, kris!

That`s what I should`ve done all these years - building a good levels..

Monsters aren't slowed by teleportation, only the player. But you can still cheapen things out as a player anyway. For example, hurry up to occupy the spot one of the monsters teleports to. Since monsters can't telefrag you (except on MAP30), that leaves you with only one baron to deal with at a time. Okay so you won't have much room for dodging attacks if you want to keep occupying the teleport spot, but that should still give you an edge.

There's a map of Reverie where I used that technique to dispatch a bunch of chaingunners safely before letting a hell knight play. Normally you get the hell knight in your face and a bunch of chaingunners appear in the distance and pepper you while you're busy with the bruiser; instead I could stunlock the chaingunners with my own chaingun and kill them fast enough to prevent them from opening fire on me, and once they were all gone, dispatch the knight in a one-vs.-one fight.

Finally, a Doom 1 megawad with challenging gameplay and with thought in it like these Doom 2 megawads... It's like playing Doom 2 megawad but with Doom 1 resources. GJ. ;-)

Thanks! It's nice to hear that people were interested in following progress over the years. :)

Well, some would argue that I should have been doing something else over the years. :p

Hehe, thanks. :)

I have a couple of maps to finish for some friends and their projects, then it's back to full time Strife work. Strife! :D

Finished up this awesome map set. I liked it so much that I moved it out of my dated folders and into my "greats" collection right next to the likes of Momento Mori, Scythe, and a certain someone's speedy shit. There is no need to wait around for the Cacoawards either, this one is gonna win one no doubt.

Its just a back to the basics, no nonsense, distilled essence of Doom Doomery here. You never know whats coming next because each new encounter is just so damn different from the last. Visuals are exactly what they need to be. They are elegantly simple and faithful to the original iwads while at the same time adding having their own flair.

Kinda - just kinda - makes want to quit putting so much details into my own map and just map Khorus style...

I'm glad you've been enjoying my stuff, and honoured you consider my little projects worthy of such company. :p
