We've heard that one before too. I'll be certain of this project's outcome either when it is released or when no computer in the world is capable of running Doom anymore.

The change of engine has added a lot of delay with recreating all the content again.

There's actually a script that scales the complexity of architecture according to the engine used. Looks pretty great in Cryengine.
