How many mappers can we get to contribute to a single project?

IDEA
Every single mapper who visits Doomworld makes one short-medium sized single player map for Doom2. That includes people who know how to map but choose not to (dew, Grazza, etc). ALL MAPPERS AT DOOMWORLD MUST PARTICIPATE! Please? This will be a giant compilation of new maps from the Doomworld community! Every mapper is different - some mappers make really detailed maps, some make under-detailed maps, some make hard maps, some make easier maps, etc.

The point is to get all mappers to contribute something to the same project, even if they only contribute a tiny one-room map - as long as they contribute something.

SPECIFICS
- small-medium sized maps for Doom 2
- one map per person
- any map format is allowed (maps will be separated into format-specific wads)
- no new textures or flats or monsters or anything
- new music is allowed (no mp3s)
- gameplay can be anything
- ALL MAPS WILL BE ACCEPTED: that means serious maps, troll maps, joke maps, tiny maps, ugly maps, speedmaps, whatever. All you have to do is submit a map!

DEADLINE = END OF 2012

GRB - you can start any time. I just wanted to see if many mappers would be interested first.

Actually, this'll be released 5 years from now if ever. We'll be waiting for the last people to never finish and maybe not everyone will want to participate.

ggg - yeah you can make a script map, I thought we could separate the maps into multiple wads, so all zdoom maps go in one wad etc. If people want to do this, I think there should be a deadline of no later than the end of 2012. Also, I know your name is g-g-gmork, but I like calling you ggg, no offence. :)

GRB - Yeah, that's why I asked if someone else should "be in charge" of the project. It's good to see the slaughterfest mappers be interested in this, but I think more people would be interested in contributing a map if someone else was "in charge".

Doomguy 2000 - Hopefully there will be many maps, one by every mapper at Doomworld. I don't want to reject any mappers and I don't want to limit the number of maps submitted. I don't want to allow custom monsters either, just straight up map data to keep things simple.

Memfis - sorry, I just meant "short-medium size maps" (like scythe), but with any gameplay and looks the mapper wants (it's up to the mapper how they want to present their map). So that mappers don't take too long making a huge epic map.

I doubt that many people will participate in this project if you'll accept such maps. I'm not saying that jario's map is bad, but most doomers will not take it seriously and they wouldn't want to be a part of this project.

I find this very interesting idea!! I am really curious to see the various styles of mapping / layout / gameplay of the doomworld's mappers, since the work is serious!

IMHO, when I play a megawad, I often enjoy guessing what is the mapper which has create such or such map =)

This idea seems somewhat prone to trolling. I'm betting half the submissions will be intentionally bad jokewads.

Still... I haven't touched an editor for a while, I suppose it might give me an excuse to get back in the habit. Seeing as it's mandatory and all. I'll say maybe.

Also, I'd suggest laying off the scripting, as those are still lumps that you'd need to screw around with. If you're saying no monsters/textures/etc to keep it simple, then you'll want to do the same with other non-map lumps.

Yeah, at least j4rio won't be banned like everyone else who doesn't post a map. ;)

Memfis - I understand what you're saying. I hope people will still participate regardless of what the maps look like. This is supposed to be a compilation of everyone's different mapping styles. So some maps might be very detailed, some might not be detailed at all, some might be hella hard, some might not be, etc.

DooMad - that's ok, if people want to submit a trollmap then that's fine with me. As long as they submit something. :) I don't mind adding the script lump since it's lumped together with the other lumps and will be easy to copy/paste.
