Pure Hellspawn Posted June 5, 2012 when i was little, demons. Now, I'd say the Icon Of Sin for one reason only. Telefragging is scary as shit. Yuri from GF3 is the scariest, unless you are really pro at killing her. 0 Share this post Link to post
D_GARG Posted June 5, 2012 it must be Dark Archviles, or DarkViles ... oh yes the ghouls, and stealth cacodemons, yeah its nice being kissed by those cute large teethed demons. speaking of which, nightmare cacodemon variants are cool 0 Share this post Link to post

MajorRawne Posted June 24, 2012 Good question. The grey Hell Viscount from STRAIN (I believe - been years since I played the wad). Creepy roar, devastating attack, hard to kill. Also the ghoul creatures from that Silent Hill style wad. (I'm not brilliant with names.) They scared the crap out of me every time. In fact that whole wad was the scariest I've played. Also the Cyberdemon in the PSX Doom secret map "The Marshes". There are light switches which either light the entire map, or plunge all the outdoors areas into darkness. You can just hear the THUMP-tap, THUMP-tap, as the Cyber wanders outside while you cower in the cave, and that creepy music plays. Oh and my sister was scared to death when I fired up Lunar Mining Project and the demons were singing "Tell Me Why" - she was almost jumping out of her seat because she thought whatever was singing was coming down the corridor to get me. In fact, the scariest thing about Doom is probably the music (PSX and 64 versions, of course). 0 Share this post Link to post
yellowmadness54 Posted June 24, 2012 Silent Hill style wad? I want to try that... The marshes level sounds pretty nifty. The music in DOOM64 use to scare the crap out of me to the point of turning down my TV haha... 0 Share this post Link to post

It's called Unloved, link here http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/?id=16060 It's had mixed reviews and people either love the atmosphere and levels or hate the somewhat confusing design or how some monsters don't fit into the wad at all (I definitely agree with that, Hexen/Heretic monsters had NO place in it) i personally like it a lot though. Would of been awesome if there was actual Silent Hill 2 monster sprites but i imagine it would of took too much time to do. On topic i definitely agree that the music in PSX Doom and Doom 64 are the scariest aspects in the doom games, but otherwise the Baron and Cyberdemon always used to shit me up when i heard their alert sounds :P 0 Share this post Link to post

To me the evil marine was scarier because while the afrit felt tough and it was found amid brutal fights, the red dude was sneaky and appeared in more suspenseful situations, waiting around the corner to spam plasma from an unexpected angle. 0 Share this post Link to post

I agree that the marine was much more of a threat. He may not have looked scary and he may have been easy to kill but if you are not ready for him then he will have you in a couple of seconds. 0 Share this post Link to post
Unholypimpin Posted July 8, 2012 I played this wad that had barney in it, and that was the scariest monster i have ever seen. He tormented me in a way that no other monster has ever done to me. I think it was a combination of his sight and pain sounds plus the fact that he shot out heat seeking happy hearts that was the most terrifying. 0 Share this post Link to post

MajorRawne Posted August 26, 2012 Slightly off-topic: Unloved had brilliant aesthetics and as a Doom/Silent Hill hybrid I felt it blended two totally different genres without flaw. I did find the level design a bit confusing. The transition between dimensions was done superbly - I just remember a few times I was running around not knowing what to do next after killing all the monsters. I also thought the new monsters were used well, so even though the Satyr (for example) doesn't really fit alongside Doom monsters, I was glad to be facing threatening new enemies so I let that slide :) 0 Share this post Link to post
NiTROACTiVE Posted August 29, 2012 The scariest monster I fought out of all the WADs I played is the hideous final boss that's in MAP30: Abysm of Jenesis. The level was also scary with all the visuals, the designs and of course, the scary as hell music. 1 Share this post Link to post
hex11 Posted August 29, 2012 The aliens from Aliens TC. They just kept coming out of the walls... It helped that I played in a completely dark room, with music turned off and sound fx all the way up (and they used audio samples from the movie). "Check those corners..." 0 Share this post Link to post
