So, dumb question, but I want to make sure...If "Authors may NOT use the contents of this file as a base for modification or reuse." Is in the description of someone's wad, does this mean I cannot take textures from their wad and use them in mine?

Also, nine times out of ten, the original-textures-do-not-steal have been ripped from Quake, Hexen or Duke Nukem 3D anyway.

Funny thing is Mr.Chris a lot of those WADS use free textures anyways but at any rate it's better to be safe than sorry and just use what can be ascertained as allowed.

I compiled this last year it's mainly for CTF but there is still some good winter textures in there. Includes a lot of the most common winter textures plus some new ones that I made.

According to some unknown GNU FSF intern, the "Authors MAY use" clause is too vague and may not really grant rights to redistribute modified versions (see this recent thread in Freedoom forum).

I think it would be really hard to make that case though, given the culture of re-use in the DOOM community. And the author of the resource would have to be the one to sue, which would be totally retarded as he's the one who actually chose the most permissive license amongst the two template choices.

I mean assuming he's really the author and didn't just claim someone else's stuff as his own - that's something that IS a big issue, as quite a few PWADs take textures and stuff from commercial IWADs and don't even mention it...
