Obsidian Posted September 8, 2013 Can anyone recommend me a large, desolate map? Low monster count, a bit of platforming and puzzling, similar to E3M1 of NEiS and MAP04 of Panophobia(I know they aren't on IdGames, but they're the only examples I can think of). Any maps like that around? EDIT: Spelling. 0 Share this post Link to post
Khorus Posted September 8, 2013 Map01 in Ni'mrod. Some of the later maps would count, too. EDIT: Now that I think about it, Phobia: The Age would also fit. 0 Share this post Link to post
Cynical Posted September 8, 2013 Asylum of the Wretched fits the bill just about perfectly: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=10984 0 Share this post Link to post
NaturalTvventy Posted September 8, 2013 Map e3m1 of Chris Lutz's Inferno was the inspiration for NEIS e3m1. http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/?id=9188 0 Share this post Link to post
Darch Posted September 8, 2013 Alexander Eternal comes to mind. Voodoo Guns is full of desolated epicness: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/?id=16645 Gravity http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/?id=15467 Hell Ground features a non monster map: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/?id=15919 0 Share this post Link to post
Megalyth Posted September 9, 2013 Phocas Island 2 fits this request somewhat. While not really "desolate" as such, it has many wide-open areas that really instill a surreal sense of being completely alone, and a great atmosphere to go with it. 0 Share this post Link to post
Zed Posted September 11, 2013 Zones of Fear Map10. A puzzle level. It may be your cup of tea. EDIT: You may also want to take a look at Map24 from 1 Monster Megawad 0 Share this post Link to post
Demon of the Well Posted September 11, 2013 Try 'Sacrament' by Clan [BOS]. It's got a number of maps in it that should be right up your alley, particularly 02, 12, and 13. I'll probably try to get the DWMC to play this sometime during one of the inevitable 'episode months.' http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=16475 0 Share this post Link to post
Grazza Posted September 11, 2013 Off the top of my head: The Ana's Dream Eye of the Beholder II map03 (not really desolate or huge, but fits the rest of the description quite nicely) 0 Share this post Link to post
yakfak Posted September 11, 2013 also worth mentioning: ALT.WAD - most of the levels are large, to the point where Boom is required, and tend to feature platforming and switch hunts. If you play 'em on easy it's basically a new Hexen campaign :B 0 Share this post Link to post
Xaser Posted September 11, 2013 STRAIN MAP21 comes to mind. Also, BTSX E2 might interest you then once it's out. :P 0 Share this post Link to post

Scripten Posted September 11, 2013 I'm really surprised that no one mentioned Hellcore 2.0. The entire set is filled with desolate maps. Frankly, the gameplay isn't great, but there is a wonderful atmosphere to the whole thing. Hellcore 2.0 0 Share this post Link to post
Memfis Posted September 11, 2013 Played Necron Fortress yesterday, a very weird desolate map. You will spend most of the time in a large castle with very few monsters, trying to find hidden passages and figure out confusing as hell teleporter puzzles. You might need about 50 minutes to beat it. 0 Share this post Link to post
