Dark Cavern Grut

I was just chipping away at some simple textures for fun, and it's slowly turning into it's own game...

It's still very early on, and requires GZDoom. Any feedback and suggestions are welcome, I'm just posting to keep a log, really.

Loving the Wind Waker aesthetic. Not so sure about the gun in the last two shots, but it all depends on what you're going for.

The gun in the last couple of shots was a test weapon I tried out, but I think I'm going in a different direction for gameplay and will probably remove it. If I do end up having a pistol, I'll definitely redraw it.

I hope I can come up with some good levels for it, too. I may end up asking if anyone else is interested in trying out some levels for it too, if you're interested. (I'll need some proper gameplay in before I do that though, haha)

reminds me of Earthbound. looking forward to seeing what enemies show up.
I'd also like to see some more dramatic lighting to make some of these more flat-looking screens more striking.

I wish I could get the diminished lighting the original software renderer had, but yeah more lighting will definitely improve things. I've been putting off enemies (for obvious reasons), I still need to come up with some designs.

That bow in the first four screenshots? I finally understood that it was a bow when I saw the gun in the other screenies. I genuinely assumed that it was a fishing rod at first. Probably because it looks so darn peaceful there.

This is what I see everytime I see a waterfall in this TC, I think that you should give it twistier lines on the water falls, or it'll look like a moustache factory.

Looks like a simple idea where it's all about nature, but there's a gun, will this have tech maps and realistic stuff of that sort?

I have been working on my TCs litterally for years.

It doesn't matter how long it takes. It just matters that work continues and that you have fun doing it.

the weapon is fully animated and functional, the enemy currently just runs around. I'm working on the attack/pain/death sprites right now.

WELL exciting news!!

After the addition of my first enemy to the game, I decided to go ahead and make a (very) tiny level for people to play :)

ends at the wood texture, the next couple of levels are the test levels i've been using.

Compatible only with GZDoom as far as I'm aware, JUMPING IS LEGAL and encouraged. I play with WASD/Mouselook.

Let me know what you guys think!

EDIT: just checked and it works on ZDoom, but the textures get messed up since I'm using PNG textures. Zandronum/Skulltag don't work.

Amazing. Great atmosphere and sense of exploration. Music was also very well chosen, except for grut03, the drums broke the naturalistic feeling of the environment at that one. I suppose you're still very beta, there are things to fix like the first weapon seems to be pointing below, some textures need to be aligned, this kind of polish. The Kenny enemy (:D) is great, his sounds are very fitting. Some ambient sounds of water, wind, leaves and birds will certainly improve the experience.

Looks very promising, waiting for it. Keep up the good work :)

The music is my own, actually :O but I agree that track needs a rework/replacing.

Ambient sounds is a great idea, I'll see what I can pull together.
