The_MártonJános Posted July 17, 2014 Well, I'd like to see the "Terryfying" version of dat spoiled-mentioned game. Maybe PM or something if it's not safe onboard. 0 Share this post Link to post
Fellowzdoomer Posted July 17, 2014 It doesn't matter. One day, we'll return to the forums and see that horrifying SOMEMONG texture plastered on as everybody's avatars, and the caption "I am Terry's Slave" under everybody's screen names... 0 Share this post Link to post
The_MártonJános Posted July 17, 2014 And, just like that "music" in Post Hell, all that obnoxious noise playing under everything, even if you turn your headphones off. 0 Share this post Link to post

I guess you haven't been in the Morons/Post Hell threads just to have fun (like I did, shame on me), or if so, you didn't activate your headphones/loudspeakers. There is an about 30-40 seconds looping "music" playing under the flashing red-and-yellow threads, that's what I'm talkin about. 0 Share this post Link to post
Fellowzdoomer Posted July 17, 2014 I'm not hearing it. Does it only work on computers? 0 Share this post Link to post
Doomkid Posted July 18, 2014 All Terry mappers should just shift their focus towards Isle of Dead. It has at LEAST as many frequent players and a booming online/modding community. Fellowzdoomer said:I'm not hearing it. Does it only work on computers? It doesn't work on my iPad. You're not missing much.. The music just kinda sounds like howling monkeys or something. Though if youre crazy enough to browse it kinda often (like me) the tune may get stuck in your head and haunt your brain for a little while. 0 Share this post Link to post
Face23785 Posted July 18, 2014 Nothing worse than a song you hate getting stuck in your head. Scumbag brain. 0 Share this post Link to post
Koko Ricky Posted July 18, 2014 I can't be the only one who recognizes the music as being from the zoo level on one of the Katamari games for PS2. 0 Share this post Link to post

You're not the only one- that is what I realised too xD I haven't played the PS2 game but I've had both Beautiful Katamari and Katamari Forever! 0 Share this post Link to post
Quasar Posted July 19, 2014 It became the Post Hell theme, replacing the previous Picard Song, after being featured in esselfortium's "Rutabaga Salad" video on YouTube. 0 Share this post Link to post

Doomkid Posted July 19, 2014 I'm looking for the Katamari PS2 song, but I can't find it... Just keep finding different versions of the main theme. Does the PH version sound different at all? 0 Share this post Link to post

printz Posted July 20, 2014 Wagi said:That makes me curious. I know it's probably possible to make a wad file that will cause a venetian blind crash on an old DOS machine, there for leaving the computer unusable until you reboot it. Is it possible to construct a wad that can cause permanent damage to a computer, through some sort of exploit in Doom (like some sort of extreme array overflow?) That should be interesting to explore. I think the danger nowadays is if the execution point ends up in one of the array overflows, not just any kind of overflow which would most likely just terminate the program. 0 Share this post Link to post

I think the danger nowadays is if the execution point ends up in one of the array overflows, not just any kind of overflow which would most likely just terminate the program. Under real mode, the dangerous types of problems are ones that stomp low DOS memory. Most of low DOS memory is available for writing by the process thanks to the behavior of the DOS/4GW DPMI provider - some parts of it are backed up at the start of execution, but others are vulnerable. Examples of writes to low DOS memory occur during a PWAD directory size limit overflow (can stomp a potentially unlimited amount of low DOS memory), and potentially during the numeric overflow crash due to overly tall areas (can stomp areas near the VGA memory mapped region). DMX also provokes some interesting undefined behavior if the program is made to invoke I_Error before DMX_Init has been called (which doesn't happen until I_Init appears in the console). The function DMX_DeInit is not designed to be safe to call until after DMX_Init, and a function registered by Doom calls it regardless. Amongst the first things it does is try to unhook the timer interrupt, without having hooked it first. This means it's going to fill in your timer interrupt value with uninitialized garbage values from the location it thought it backed it up to - lots of other things in the system depend on the timer, so, who knows what this could fuck up. As I've mentioned before, I once had my printer print out a sheet of garbage when DOOM crashed. It did this by somehow invoking the DOS function to print - DOOM contains no code ordinarily capable of that, but, the x86 instruction set has a peculiar property in that if data is inadvertently executed as code, privileged instructions such as "int" (invoke an interrupt function) are amongst the most probable to occur - try loading random data in a disassembler and look how many inport, outport, breaks, and interrupt invocations are apparently between the invalid opcodes ;) 1 Share this post Link to post
Avoozl Posted July 21, 2014 And all this time I thought it supposed to be a zombie attempting to sing. 0 Share this post Link to post
hardcore_gamer Posted July 21, 2014 The most baffling thing about many Terry wad's is that they start out good, meaning that the people who make them are perfectly able to make good wads if they wanted to, but instead they decide to make Terry wads instead. There are countless crap/troll wads out there, but most are just low-effort stuff like wow.wad. Terry wads often take real effort to make, and that in my view is the saddest (or funniest?) part. 1 Share this post Link to post

Guest Unregistered account Posted July 21, 2014 I'm not entirely sure why Terry got so popular. I mean, I hadn't even joined the Doom community in 2007 (I was in Year 2 which is grade 1 in America I think) but even so, I'm pretty sure there would've been plenty of joke + troll wads around (not counting Wow.wad) that time. Maybe it was because Doomworld gave UACMN a Cacoward. 0 Share this post Link to post
Fellowzdoomer Posted July 21, 2014 ^ The cacoward giver must have been a Terry troll. I'm surprised he's telling others to do his bidding. What country are you in? 0 Share this post Link to post
Obsidian Posted July 21, 2014 You go ahead and tell Darknation he's a Terrytroll, I'm sure he'll be thrilled. 0 Share this post Link to post
