If you've never played Doom, the first stop you'll want to make is the Shareware page where you can download the original Doom shareware, featuring nine levels of gut-wrenching, hellspawn-blasting action. If you want to buy Doom, head down to the local market, or over to id Software's Shopping Maul to download an encrypted version unlockable via a credit card and phone number. If you have played Doom, and have questions about setting it up, getting it running, grabbing the red key in Map02, killing the goat head on Map30, etc, head over to our Frequently Asked Questions page. If you have an old version of Doom (on 3.5" disks maybe?) then head on over to our Patches page to upgrade to version 1.9, which is pretty much a given if you want to use any Doom stuff nowadays. If you're interested in making your own Doom levels or add-ons, the first thing you'll need to do is head over to the Utilities page and grab yourself a level editor. To learn how to build levels, or figure out other terminology (Node builders? Reject maps?), head to the Editing Tutorials page, which offers level editing tips to help out beginners and veterans alike. Maybe you've heard about Doom's wicked multiplayer! Well, we've got a Multiplayer page set up for just that, which will guide you towards programs, FAQs, listings, and utilities for Dooming over the internet, LAN, IPX, modem, or whatever. Finally, in this advanced age, you might come across levels by others which require versions of Doom called "DOSDoom" or "Boom" or "ZDoom." Don't worry, you don't need to pick up these at the local software store... head over to our Source Ports page to download souped-up Doom engines, sorted by operating system. If after checking all this info out you still have a question, feel free to email us here at Doomworld. We've got a Contact Info page set up for just that :) Have fun and keep on Dooming! |
