  2. Darkening Episode 2 Texture Wad

When we released the Darkening Episode 2 waaaaay back, we sorta promised a standalone texture wad so you could create your own Darkening E2 Levels. For various reasons we never got around to releasing this texture wad, but by popular demand, here it finally is.

The only change between this release and the 2011 release, is that I've gotten in touch with Ola and obtained his approval to relax the permissions. It is now allowed to incorporate these textures in other projects, all we ask is that, in the spirit of good manners, credit is given to the Darkening E2 team.

I hope that this resolves any issues anyone had with the initial release.

This is a patch of the blaster rifle from Dark Forces. It replaces the rocket launcher. It is a PWAD and EXE hack. It does not change anything. Not even the EXE. This backs it up. It comes with all the software required. This should run perfectly if you put this in your DOOM dir.

  7. Dimmed Palettes

Dimmed Palettes contain slightly corrected, darkened and not over-contrasted palettes for Doom, Heretic, Hexen and Strife.

My aim was to completely preserve original colors, making overall picture looks better on modern bright LCD screens.

To load palette, simply use -file for: Doom: doom-pal.wad Heretic: her-pal.wad Hexen: hex-pal.wad Strife: strf-pal.wad

Take it, try it, like it. :-)

I liked the original screen more than the DoomII screen so I just combined the two - but there are plans to do more...

  14. Doom 3 Hellknight

Baron from Hell and Hellknight (which is just differently colored Baron) are my favourite Doom monsters. They're really great. But when Doom 3 was realeased I enjoyed new hellknight too so I decided to replace a Doom1 Baron from Hell with Hellknight from D3. The work I've done is presented here, I hope you'll like it. And yes, I know: what are those original legs doing there?! Hellknight in Doom 3 didn't have them! So... they're existing ;) I just thought myslef that they look pretty fine.

  15. Doom 3 Hellknight

That's a woman zombie who replaces former human. Haven't you ever thought about adding a female character to Doom? Yes, I know - it could ruin all shoot-n-forget gameplay, because it's much easier to exterminate thousands of agamic monsters. So I decided not to make a sexy, busty vampiress (however there are mods who gives you chance to mess with them) but a lady, who would kick your ass in a minute. She's more Gretel Grosse from Wolfenstein than for example Lara. I hope you like it.

  16. Doom 3 Imp

That's an Imp with Doom3-like look. I love imps from D3 and I hate those original ones. They look so silly with those opened jaws! So I got to change them, and here is the wad file. Imps have different head, have more eyes. Spikes and color wasn't changed but if you'd likie, I can do it and upload a version.

  17. Doom Face Fix

You may have not noticed this, but when your playing doom2 and either you shoot about 6 or 7 rounds from the pistol and the marine grits his teeth his eyes turn blue. When you let off the fire button his eyes go back to black. Also when you pick up a weapon the marines eyes turn blue..These files fix that so the marines eyes stay one color. Extract this zip file to your doom directory (and if you wish back up your old doom wad) and run fix.bat. Enjoy :-D

All the weapons have hooves holding them, and the sounds of the marine are now moos. My dog and two cats also make guest appear- ances as various spheres and artifacts. This wad requires deusf.exe (which is included).

  21. DOOM Mac Barrels v1.0

The wound from that demon scrape is killing you!! You try to look around at the scenery to divert your attention for a bit. All around you is barren wasteland. There is some- thing that catches your attention, however. To your right is an old Macintosh Classic, the UAC's general-purpose torture device which also, ironically, doubles as a poor excuse for an abacus... er, computer. It was invented in the late twentieth century, but the Apple corporation that made it apparently couldn't stand up to the competition of the other superpowerful PC companies, so their technology never progressed. AAACH! Suddenly, an Imp comes out of the shadows, roaring its Satanic battle-cry as it sees you. Thinking quickly, you let out a blast from your shotgun, but because of your terrible aim, the shell hits the old Mac. The thing rattles, the screen cracks, and the damn thing EXPLODES into a ball of red fire with a distant system beep in the background, killing the Imp!! Holy shit! Maybe these things CAN be useful...!

  22. Doom Noir

This is just a PLAYPAL/COLORMAP replacement that changes DOOM into a *mostly* black and white game. The red range is left as-is.

I originally put this together back in the late nineties and it languished on my hard drive afterwards. Sometime recently, I think it was the film "Sin City" that reminded me of this.

I looked around and there is another B&W PWAD called "ww-nfoir.wad". However it doesn't leave the red range alone: That's made B&W too.

I also threw in some new BSPLAT sprites taken from "gib.wad"; another PWAD sitting on my HD.

  23. Doom Palette in Black & White

A B/W version of the Doom palette and colormap. Loading this file as a PWAD will cause the game to lose colors.

Why the hell would anyone want to do it? Firstly, the colormap was recalculated for the new grayscale palette. Since the palette contains a lot more shades of the same color, quality of lighting/shading effects has increased. It's specially noticeable in darkness - now even sectors with 0 brightness won't give pitch black, but a reasonable dusk instead. That's the biggest advantage.

Works for every texture ever made for the Doom palette. No reinclusion of patches/sprites is needed.

I admit the palette as itself won't make the gaming experience better in most cases. However I believe some modders might find this useful for their unusual works, that's why I'm releasing it. And perhaps for color-blind players? But this is probably nothing for standard playthroughs or to make a random wad better, I personally prefer to see colorful world too. :)

Note: I made the palette by altering the original palette, using RGB-averaging technique - I did it manually for each color index. But I tweaked a couple of values in order to achieve better shade variety in the darkest shades of gray. Textures and sprites already using dark colours will turn even darker as a result. It shouldn't be a big problem, though.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.

What the actual f*ck is this map. I love having 4 rockets, a shit ton of bullets and like 10 shotgun shells to take out a revenant, and whatever was in that cage. Doesn't look too bad, maybe this negativity is cus im no expert, also rather unskilled at the game?

thank god Underhalls was the map that followed this mod as that level was able to remind me what actually competent level design looks like.

Not that bad, even kind of interesting find the secrets in the map! But yeah, that switches jungle is a awful choice really.

A basic and nice looking showroom type of map where monsters are trapped inside glass prisons, no exit and no way to play this with any modern source Port like DSDA-Doom and GZDoom, but works really well in Crispy Doom. It was a pleasant experience.
