  3. Quake III CTF

Inside you will find 6 of the most famous Quake 3 CTF maps, converted to DOOM !!

map01- Future Crossings by Scancode map02- Infinity by cityy map03- Ironworks by Method map04- Stonekeep by SyncError map05- Pillbox by SyncError map06- Japanese Castles by g1zm0

Finished using slade, doombuilder 2 , and GTKradiant. Dimensions are transcribed exactly. Of course there is SOME minor modding. Mostly varying floor HEIGHTS to fit the doom experience. Infinity is an example with no height modification.

mapping in GTKradiant is extremely hard! Huge shout out to those dedicated to mapping for the idtech 3 engine. The guys that made these maps are heroes of the craft!

Fun fact: cityy and g1zm0's maps (Infinity/Jap Castles) were bought by id software.

This wad is dedicated to all the people that know the difference between an FPS and an AFPS.

  4. Precious Snowflake

This is a smooth, fast, rampy, multi-level DM pit for 2 to 4. It makes heavy use of slopes and 3D floors.

No BFG, no chainsaw. All other weapons are included.

As stated elsewhere this map requires ZDoom or GZDoom and while this map might run on other engines it will NOT WORK without the bridges, ramps or the ability to jump.

  5. POINT of CONTENTION

Hello all my dooming friends! I'm here to release a map I've created recently, Point of Contention. There are five spawns - Two start with the chaingun and three with the shogun. There is a central SSG that is equidistant from each spawn. There is also a plasma gun, blue armor and soulsphere present. This makes for a frantic 1v1 map which can be played in two different ways:

Option#1 (Recommended) - Play with NOS flags: Items Respawn, Freelook on, No Jump. With NOS flags, this map will be all about moving through this tight little spaceship as fast as you can. Continue to grab the soulsphere and blue armor, then nab the BFG and re-juice it with fresh ammo from the provided plasma gun.

Option#2 - Play with pure OS flags: Freelook, Jumping, and Item respawn all OFF. This creates a map where you will absolutely need that SSG, and it will become a king of the hill scenario around the BFG lift. Whoever is best at defending it will come out on top, but they will have to grab that plasma gun to reill their ammo at some point, so keep a sharp eye on your enemy!

This wad is very unforgiving to new players - It's designed to reward knowledge of your guns, constant movement and reading your opponent. I don't think I'll make another map quite in this style again. Oh, and of course, this runs in Zdaemon, Zandronum and Odamex. I had a lot of fun making it and hope you have a lot of fun playing it.

  22. Q3 - Tier 1

Obviously, a conversion of Q3's first tier except for one level, which makes 3 levels. I must apologise for the maps not having exits and having to idclev about. The first map was made ages ago in Wad Author (it shows) and the other two - recently in Doom Builder. I just felt it won't be right to add exits to the old maps. And running with -sv_cheats 1 isn't such a bugger.

  23. Power Plant Deathmatch

This wad got its inspiration from the power plant in Total Recall. Try to remember that it is only inspired by it, not designed to look exactly like it. There are 8 Deathmatch starts, no monsters since this is NOT a single player map although you can, of course, look at the map if you like. Weapons available for fragging your buddies are the pistol (naturally), chainsaw (for that up close and personal frag), Shotgun, Super shotgun, chaingun and rocket launcher. I left the Plasma rifle and BFG out. There is also no exit in this level.

  24. Pot City

Doom II deathmatch wad taking place in a strange hellish base sort of thing... This began as an experiment of the mind and it's ability to conjure up alternate realities and such. I sat for an entire day smoking myself euphoric and editing levels, and this is the result. I threw some small monsters in as well, if you like something besides fellow marines to slap around.

Having been recommended to me earlier, a while back i gave this WAD a serious try, whilst by now being quite sure it's not on paper something i'd be likely to enjoy.  And so it wasn't, i simply quit in E1M4, but could've just as easily done so already on M1, as my impression didn't change at all as the game went on.   For me, the layouts are far too protracted and downright boring as a result, and the detailing is heavy-handedly generous, and i would even say, not pleasing to my eye.  Long levels often are not a problem when the layout is well-designed, and when one by the end of it has gotten a good grasp of it, but here i never got that feeling, so for me the layout designs are a problem.  No doubt this is partly due to them being expansions of the original maps, but it shows their efficacy and genius - and it shows that the whole idea of expanding such maps may be ill-adviced unless one can truly match that genius, and here that has not been the case. i also did not enjoy the alteration of the original areas to 'modernized' or 'improved' versions.  One main feature of this WAD are the gameplay additions, such as mines, forcefields, radiation areas, new monsters and numerous others, and these i saw as nothing more than gimmicks that didn't add any substance, simply detracting from the elegant simplicity of the game.   As far as gameplay itself goes, on first level there was a severe shortage of health considering the amount of hitscanners, and also some worry about having enough ammo.  On further levels they weren't frivolously given either but that's to be expected (quite a bit of bullet-spongy beasts are present, so it's important to manage it all correctly).  The new monsters didn't add anything to my liking, but i do see what was attempted with them - still, for me they are just a novelty (i sort of like the black crouching figure shooting fireballs, maybe it could be used somewhere and i'd like it...)  Doom is an extremely balanced game, and it's not easy to add to its bestiary without tipping the scales, i'm aware of only a handful of times that it's been successful to my taste.   One interesting thing was the detailed intermission-stats, that even showed as graphs the player's success in past levels and collected/used ammo, health, etc.    i have in the past used the term gimmick-WAD and this is a good example of exactly what i mean with it.  So for me, this had nothing to do with Doom, but i give two stars regardless, mainly for effort and trying something different.  Even so, this is just my personal experience and preference, and i'm glad a lot of people are of a different opinion.  (Played on LZDoom, HMP and continuous.)
