  2. ZMatch: 3rd STRIKE!

Z-Match: 3rd Strike is a collection of 14 maps with a hellish, almost medieval theme. Inspiration is taken from several great WADs, but this pack has a unique identity that it brings to the table. Gameplay and detail were top priority while designing these - You will -not- get bored playing them!

  11. Void Deathmatch Set (Preview Release 1)

Deathmatch map set inspired by Cyb's Void and American McGee's Alice. More maps are in development; map11 here is actually map12 in the final pack. At least 3 maps are missing from this release.

This map pack is designed for new-school configuration (freelook and jump especially, and also no infinite actor height); attempts to do play with other settings will be painful.

  14. Where Am I?

Not really playable to any real extent. More of a "confuse the heck out of the player" map that continuously makes you wonder where you are unless you look at the automap or figure out the gimmick.

  15. The ZODIAC Deathmatch, 2nd edition

zodiac2e.wad contains two cycles of 12 maps each, plus a bonus map. They are for Deathmatch only and need ZDoom/ Zdaemon for some special effects. Each map is dedicated to one zodiac sign. I tried to make visible the element (fire, water, earth or air) each sign belongs to.

The maps are designed for 4 to 8 players but work with 1 on 1, too. Jumping should be disabled and monsters respawn.

This wad contains all music in MIDI format. If you like it, you should watch out for zod2emus.wad, which offers all tracks in arranged versions and can be loaded as an additional wad.

  21. The ZODIAC Deathmatch

zodiacdm.wad is a series of 12 maps. They are for Deathmatch only and need ZDoom for some special effects. Each map is dedicated to one zodiac sign. I tried to make visible the element (fire, water, earth or air) each sign belongs to. And by the way, have a look on the automap from time to time...

I know that monsters are unusual in deathmatch maps. But one map (no. 10 - capricorn) has two monsters in it to make things more interesting (it's the christmas map :-) )... but they are easy and it's fun to kill them. They shouldn't bother you, so let them respawn! Some other maps contain deadly traps. Be careful!

And while you're waiting for other players to come, you may search for the easter eggs I put into some of the maps. Those maps are dedicated to DM-friends at Zdaemon.

  24. ZDaemon Contest Map

Well, it's a bit symmetrical (someone is going to kill me now for saying that), but it's still good nonetheless. It has that strong E1-ish feeling to it, mixed with a bit of E1M8.

EDIT: I tested this wad in Doom v1.1 and it works perfectly, so I decided to convert the MIDI to MUS format. Enjoy oldsk00lers!

Mars War has great level design, perfect soundtracks, and is overall a fun experience. This is without a doubt my favorite megawad and I would highly recommend it to pretty much anyone (unless misaligned textures REALLY bug you)

A work of art. The broken BSP tree makes it even better.

It's insane that this was made in 1994. The level of detail, atmosphere and feeling of exploration is simply unmatched by anything from that era. And not only that, but it actually feels like a real place. Absolutely stellar stuff; I highly recommend this to everyone, including modern players who don't typically play old stuff. You'll be blown away.

Technically the first map sets in real life university, or at least the first officially accepted as one of those kind of maps. The map Is pretty complex and some areas are neat for a map made in 1994, big open structures with some good simple details in It, the layout Is intricate and good, expect for a pair of dead rooms hunting for keys and other goodies, but it's a good way to tell the player to explore the place. The only big issue is the yellow key door in the main courtyard area that doesn't open (at least in Woof port, the "latest" release) for some weird reason. Good stuff btw.
