  4. Red Key for Heretic

Just a little mod that replaces the yellow key with a red one. I made this for use in Shadowcaster, but due to the sprite-based nature of the red key stuff, it didn't take long to work out that it could be used anywhere, really. So here it is - play any wad you want with it, use it in your own wad if you want to.

  5. Candy choppers

My first released Heretic level, replaces E2M1. Very small. Gameplay probably not perfect, I don't know much about Heretic. But I tried to make it an okay level.

  7. Quad Wads - Heretic version (Doom and Doom2 versions also available as quad_dm1.zip and quad_dm2.zip

All three of these wads are designed the same; one for Doom 1, one for Doom 2, and one for Heretic. It is a fast paced level that usually results in a lot of frags. The layout of the walls and transporters is identical in all three levels so if you learn one, you've learned them all. After many hours of,... ah,... "testing", we've found that this is one of the best layouts for deathmatch play.

  11. PARR.WAD

These are my first three tries at creating maps that work. The first map is the usual find the keys and battle your way out. The second map I started using more tags and switches. The third map also uses more tags and switches.

Map 3 has one unusual item - floating columns. This may have been done before but I haven't seen it yet. When you enter the level There are columns that appear to be floating. You can walk under them and even look patially up into them. I thought it looked really cool so I left them in.

If you play these file and read this please write me and let me know what you think. Feedback will help me create better files.

  12. THE CRIMSON'S QUEST!

This is my second big solo/coop level. I tried to make it not too hard to play with some nice designs and some cheap tricks. I learnt a lot since my first wad (which was not as good as I expected). Anyway, this level is a lot of fun (Yeah, shure!). Play it!

  15. RECANT v1.1 for HERETIC v1.0

RECANT is a fairly large level and is geared more toward single play, although deathmatch and co-op are of course supported. The water room took me forever to put together, and the tower in the lava pit gave me nightmares with the texture alignment (all done manually, folks). This was supposed to be a much bigger level, actually (and may be someday), but I'm worn thin and threadbare. Still, there are no loose ends here (I hope) -- and big levels, in general, don't impress me. They're a dime a dozen these days.

I love to get e-mail, so send me any comments you like about RECANT (as long as they're in good taste and full of obsequious high praise).

  16. The Pit of Freedom

This wad was first designed with the intent of a good one person level but ended up progressing to the stage of a DeathMatch level with a little added work. It should be both enjoyable as a single player game and a death- match. You start at the top of an open pit. Three doors control your destiny. The one that brought you to this pit and two which are locked with keys you do not possess. The only way to go is down. The wind howls over the pit as two golems race forward to challenge the enterer.

      Dear Doomkid,

I was involved in the design and play-test of each of these levels. Please know these were created from *scratch* and we spent our time making sure the levels were as playable as possible. We were not terribly focused on texturing, other than to give players positional awareness in different parts of each arena.

Map 6 -- Offices of Death -- Was intentionally designed to be as accurate a representation of the office we worked in as possible. Admittedly, playability was taken as a second priority. We did manage to create working "elevators" and "stairs" to give the illusion you were going up and down floors. I was pretty happy with how we did.

Considering it was 1996, and no way to simply "Google" different ideas. Your best bet at the time was to jump onto the Usenet and hope you could find a decent board with active members. Other than that, it was pretty much all self-taught.

I'm glad you enjoyed the other levels. Yes, they are old-school, big arena, style. We spent a LOT of time trying to make sure they were as balanced as possible, with escape routes, and required risks for rewards.

Excellent stuff for the mid-1990s. Lots of action, good layouts, pretty challenging on UV.    9/10

For 1995 design is ok. But is VERY short. 3 min in slow pace.  Map is easy af.

Square rooms, no details, ugly. Secrets aren't flagged as secret. Only for crappy-wad-lovers.

For 1995, not bad. Some ideas, are really cool, but they're mixed with dumb things. Texture misalignments are common. Overall I had nice time with this.
