  8. 11th Hour Stauf Wad

A reproduction of the Stauf mansion from The 11th Hour: The Sequel To The 7th Guest. PLAY DEATHMATCH WITH MONSTERS. STAUF.WAD is for DOOM, STAUF2.WAD is for DOOM2, STAUFH.WAD is for HERETIC. Very simple. An example command line for DOOM is C:\DOOM>DOOM -FILE STAUF.WAD The same would apply for the rest of the WADs. I tried to keep the WADS as easy to play as possible. You will find tons of ambush points and secrets. I got a little carried away with the HERETIC WAD, there are a few more secret areas. Hope you enjoy the Wads, I Had fun making them.

  9. Shadowcaster

A 21st century Heretic episode covering many styles of level, both traditional and unusual as well. Having achieved everything I wanted to in DooM 2, I have decided to move on to Heretic 'cos it's just as easy to make levels for it as it is for DooM. (although I will return to DooM afterwards) It's also a great game and I thought of some great ideas, many using Heretic's special features.

If you love puzzles, then prepare to be tested, because there are a wide variety of fiendish puzzles in this wad, covering all of Heretic's features, from the regular to the weird and wonderful!

Tests of skill also feature in this wad, again covering a wide range of Heretic's features.

For those of you who like secrets, there are at least 5 in each level. (quite often more than that....) And, once again, you'll be pleased to know that the secret level is VERY well hidden.....

And you'll be even more pleased to know that I have made an effort with the lighting this time! (even though the lack of texture/flat based lighting makes it a bit harder to do in Heretic, as there is only thing based lighting, which should all oscillate)

In short, prepare to be challenged, in more ways than one!

This is a level for Heretic. A group of Disciples of D'sparil are holding a ceremony to resurrect their fallen leader. In order to perform this ceremony they have taken control of a sacred elven church and killed its inhabitants. You must find the key, unlock its doors and put an end to their foul ceremonies. Of course, their monstrous minions are not going to let you just walk up and take the key, so you will have to deal with them first.

For 1995 design is ok. But is VERY short. 3 min in slow pace.  Map is easy af.

Square rooms, no details, ugly. Secrets aren't flagged as secret. Only for crappy-wad-lovers.

For 1995, not bad. Some ideas, are really cool, but they're mixed with dumb things. Texture misalignments are common. Overall I had nice time with this.

Aside from a couple of stinkers (I'm looking at you, maps 20 and 33), this was a pretty fun and challenging map set to play through. For the time limit imposed in order to make these maps, they're of pretty nice quality, I think. While I wasn't the biggest fan of the (in my opinion) overusage of Arch-Viles and Revenants, it was still a fair challenge.

Disregard earlier review server error caused me to download the incorrect file. So what do I like? The textures combined with the sharp lighting contrast between heavy dark and rather bright areas. What I don't like is the rather empty feeling level with large rooms and corridors filled with medium tier enemies on Ultra Violence, i.e cacodemons and hellknights, while only given a shotgun and chaingun. The issue with this is that encounters become more tedious than dangerous. I would add a super shotgun or spread out the medium tier enemy placement. The level detailing leaves a lot to be desired with the large empty grey rooms/corridors reminding me more of Half-Life than Doom. With some more detailing and better monster/weapon placement I would rank this higher but as it stands this level leaves a lot to be desired.
