  1. WIZARD2 - Heretic

This PWAD was created from the same author who created the WIZARD.WAD level that was in the TiC's WAD reviews (#7), if you played that PWAD, and enjoyed it, perhaps you'll enjoy WIZARD2... try it out, and let me know what you think... thanks. This PWAD was made to play on the (Registered) version of Heretic, it will not play on the (Shareware) version.

  3. Valley of Saints

Watched by towering monuments to the greatest of D'Sparil's disciples, the Valley of Saints is full of certain death to any heretic that dare enter. Never the less, it is your quest to reach the chapel at the summit of the cliff and destroy the evil within. Following an ancient cavern passage, you ready your wand and prepare to enter the valley.

There is a firemace, and it may appear early, late, or not at all. You'll have to adjust to your fortunes accordingly. If you find yourself low on ammo, remember your wand and bombs.

This WAD is tested to be fully vanilla compatible. When designing the layout, my guiding principle was that it should be possible to go through the level with multiple variant routes. I'd be interested in any speedruns or other vanilla demos you come up with.

  4. Water World

Water Water every where. Just because the tunnel looked one way the last time you walked down it, it dose not mean that it's that way now.

  6. Volcano Island (DeathMatch)

Simple Death Match with small water passages that lead up to a big clearing with erupting volcanos. This is my first one so give me some feedback. You can play cooperative, but its really only for Death Match. I added the Player 1, 2, etc. so it wouldn't bug up.

  8. Water City v1.0

In the Dome of D'Sparil there is an ancient underwater city that has recently been taken over by the minions of the dark wizard. It is your responsibility to remove the foul presence of these evil creatures from this place! City of the Damned? That was mere practice compared to the beings you must face here!

Although it may seem like there are large amounts of ammo (like Wand Crystals and Ethereal Arrows), the ammo IS limited. This is particularly true on the higher difficulty levels when there are many more creatures out to get you.

  9. Water Castle v1.0a

This map is the sequel to Water City, and as such picks up where that map left off. I think I did a much better job with this map then the former, as the detail level is much higher and I've implemented a few cool traps and puzzles.

There are two crossbows right near the start, so that gives you a choice as to how you want to get your prized weapon. Some people didn't like fighting with the Elven Wand for long periods of time (as in Watercity) so I've 'corrected' that with this release.

If you play this level on Hard you're asking for trouble.. health is sparse, ammo is hard to get, you'll have to fight more then 150 enemies, and you may even be forced to use your staff! The challenge increases exponentially when you play on Hard, so don't say I didn't warn you..

There are several tunnels and teleporters which don't show on the map, and these are to enhance Deathmatch playablity. If you DM, I highly recommend you play this map with at least four players, as it's a fairly large area.

This map has no Maulotaurs, Undead Warriors or Weredragons. Expect to see quite a few Sabreclaws and Iron Liches however, and hordes of Gargoyles :)

  13. Wizard's Revenge

You fell for the ultimate trap. The Death Test. Caught like a fly in a spider's web. Now you're just another monster in the maze. Your jailer is a cruel demon who loves to dish out pain. Not much of a roomate. The cell you occupy seems to be some kind of secret or forgotten place. They want you to go crazy here. They want you to become a killer, a monster. But either way, you won't last long. Something bigger, stronger, maybe invisible, WILL get you. Or the desciples will sacrifice you in their temple. (It's said that some are taken back to their dismal lairs and slowly tortured to death merely for their own sick amusement.) You grit your teeth as you realize what must be done. Tomorrow you will be weaker. You must act at once! Taking out the cell guardian will be easy enough. Beyond that, only luck and low cunning can deliver you from this cursed prison...

  14. WIZARD WARS

(Rules) Up to 4 players each control one of 4 "keeps" (castle, pyramid, iron tower & caverns) in a pocket dimension. Each "Lord" has different weapons, magic & minions to use while both defending his turf (each keep holds keys or secrets the other Lords need) and infiltrating the keeps of the other three Lords. Although cooperative mode is used (mainly so that the keys work), you MAY attack other players. Try to let your minions do the work for you, though. It'll save on ammo. (Before you set out from your keep, wake up your monsters with a couple warning shots with your weapon. You'll be suprised at their enthusiasm, and the resulting confusion should keep an invader busy for quite some time... Besides, you'll be long gone by then.) Lords are encouraged to make (& break) alliances & treaties, assassinate or imprison other Lords (not to worry, escape is always possible), etc. It's "All For One" AND "Every Man For Himself" at the same time. (ie: politics) You must escape from D'Sparil's pocket dimension at ALL costs and the Lord who does is instantly proclaimed Arch Wizard Deluxe and Winner of the BattleGame.

NOTE: The game described above is called The BattleGame. (wizwarsb.wad, B for BattleGame) This HERETIC variant may not appeal to all HERETIC players, so I've also included:

The Adventure (wizwarsa.wad), for solo or standard cooperative mode

The Deathmatch (wizwarsd.wad), for standard deathmatch play

Please don't use the BattleGame if you want to play standard HERETIC solo or cooperative modes. The monster setup will be ALL WRONG and no challenge whatsoever.

This is a solid contender for being the absolute best Megawad that I've ever played.

I...did not review this, okay. well, it's blue and it's pretty decent and setpiece-y. get used to ribbiks' style and this one is just like all his other maps, very well-designed and fun to play. just watch out for MAP03's final area.

it's one of those classic 90's wads you can probably just sift through, but it's not that good. plenty of inescapable pits, some awful level progression, and some actually trollish crusher placement lie within this one.

A few really good maps supported by a bunch of alright ones. Visuals are mostly Plutonia-inspired, with the occasional veering into Shores of Hell type mish-mash architecture. Difficulty is about on par with DOOM2.wad I think. Overall, a rather pedestrian affair, although the standout maps are certainly worth the time.

BACK TO SATURN X E1: GET OUT OF MY STATIONS REVIEW:   The Good:   - Stunning visuals   - Great monster placement   - Lots of (clever) secrets and they are rewarding   - Enough ammo to keep you going   - The names of the Maps LOL!   - Loads of fun   - Awesome music!   The Bad:   - Not long enough. LOL! I loved it so much, I didn't want it to end!   In Short: I've actually played this fantastic WAD at least 6 or 7 times. Why? This is my second favorite WAD of all time, only bested by its successor, BTSX Episode 2: Fountain of Sparks. I remember the very first time I played it a couple of years ago like it was yesterday. How many times can you say that (in a good way) about a game?   I remember being completely blown away by the architectural designs at the time. I even remember giggling as I sunk in the ocean on the final Map, only to read something like "To Be Continued..." and thinking, "Awww....it's over." But I admit that, like everyone else, I had loads of fun with this.    There is lack of a "customary" final boss (I wasn't certain if this was a "Good" or "Bad" element of the game, hence why it's in neither category above - it really will depend on the player so I kept it neutral). But don't let that deter you! The final "stage" in the last (playable) Map is as memorable as it is wicked, and it'll keep you on your toes just like any other customary boss!   Play this WAD if it's the only WAD you ever play. Definite replay value.   Well deserved Cacoward. Thanks, Team, for making it!   5 out of 5 stars with me.  ~ dylux
