  6. Doom for WindowsCE source code

This is the source code for the WindowsCE version of Doom. It also includes the source for a program to split the Doom1.wad file (the only one DoomCE was tested with due to space considerations) into five pieces for loading on the CE machine.

I do not have the binaries available (nor any way to check them, now if I rebuilt them).

There is a way to build this project which is for Visual C++ 5.0 (SP3 with the WindowsCE toolkit) for Intel Win32 so that program modifications can be tested on a Windows95 system (rather than in the Win32 emulator on NT).

The sound code works fine on Win32 but does not sound right on CE.

Also some CE machines use direct color where others use paletted color.

This code also can make use of direct frame buffer access which works relatively well on direct color machines but I have not been able to make work on machines that use paletted color (like HP-620LX).

Also bear in mind the OS interface on CE is totally Unicode and that the Ansi 'C' libraries are not all there. The CE 'C' toolkit is only about 10% POSIX 1.1 compliant as well.

  12. Launcher for PRBOOM

This is in a VERY early state. I have released it to get some suggestions and comments. Some things don't work. But you can launch PRBOOM with PWADS and DEH/BEX files very easy. I have not included any documentation, but the INI-File and the program should be self explanatory. Most buttons have hint- windows wich explain them. Just try it out.

  17. DooM LEGACY Release v1.2

Hello all Doom fans of the world, here is the latest release of Doom LEGACY project by Fab & Boris (we still didn't found a name for our team, let's say it is 'Fab & Boris').

Well, if you are reading this you probably know by now that the gods at IdSoftware have released the sources of the greatest game on earth : Doom !!

Of course a lot of projects have started around the sources since about January 1998, and Doom LEGACY is competing to be the best of the choices!

We have always dreamed of Doom sources being released, and all the features that we'd like to add. Since Doom1 was out we are fans of deathmatching. Don't ask us why we like it more than Duke Nukem or other clones, we like the atmosphere of Doom and its like that!

This new version of Doom is not commercial anymore, but you should have the original Doom2 data (doom2.wad and other files), that comes with the original Doom2 software.

  21. DOSDoom v0.1

Well, today, id software released the doom source code, but only for the linux version. Since i don't happen to have linux installed on my machine, i decided to port it to dos. This little exe is the result. You might need cwsdpmi.exe, so copy it from your quake dir if you dont have it. This has only been tested on my computer, with DOOM 2.

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this is a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.
