  1. ¡Bulla!

An open space, full of strange buildings and hordes of enemys with very bad temper. Luckily, there's enough ammo for all of them. Try to take some of the shotguns of the sargeants that appears behind the grate: you will live more.

I made this level during the winter of 1998, and at first I included it in the episode that I was doing at that time... In 2002 I retouched it, adding a new sky graphic and a "new" music, and I released it separately. This modified map was presented at the 3rd Cabro's map tournament.

  2. A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood?

Your blasting away at a Cyberdemon when one of his mega-rockets homes in on you. The explosion is deafening and your senses go numb. What seams like seconds... well mabey hours later you shake your head and pull yourself up. Staring through a hole in the wall in front of you it, looks like episode 3 on the other side. "This has never happened before" you think. Whew!! Safe ... for the moment at least. Turning around you think to yourself "This looks like a normal neighborhood street". Until the first fire ball comes flying at you.

HINTS The scenic storm sewer is a must and be sure to tour the "ZOO". There is an exit but it's someplace you've already been and you can't get there until you complete your "Tour of Duty".

  4. A Nukage River Runs Through It

Ahhhh... Earth. After that last mission, you deserve a little time off by golly. So you cringe when the vidphone sounds. But... but...my vacation... you try to explain. They promise that you'll have your vacation after you check out the reports of "something strange" going on at the nuclear power plant... probably just a glitch...most likely a routine communication breakdown. Yeah that's it. Better take your rod... you've heard that there's some good fishing in the river that runs through it. Boy were you wrong!!!

This pwad was written by Avery Lodato (alodato@ucdavis.edu) using deu5.0 and bsp1.0. It replaces E1M1. Designed for single player action, I would give it difficulty factor of around 7 on a scale of 1 to 10.

  8. ACADEMY.WAD

Ever wonder where all of those soldiers you :have to kill come from? Well, your curiosity :got the best of you, and you decided to find out.

    :Bad idea.

:On a visit to the Aubrey Penhew Military Academy, :you were horrified to learn that the entire campus -- faculty, staff, and students -- have been :taken over by those Nefarious Demons From Beyond :Space and Time. You were stripped of your gear, :smacked around, and made to watch twelve straight :hours of "Fantasy Island" re-runs.

    :Bummer.

:After enduring a half day of your one-time comrades :kneeling on their knees making "'da plane! 'da plane!" :jokes, you were ready saw off your ears with a butter :knife. Just as you were eyeying your plastic utensils, :the Sgt.-in-charge dashed in and announced that :the parade-in-review was about to start.

:You were unceremoniously thrown into a basement storage :room, your only company in the sudden solitude being :the pounding of your heart and the remembered sound of :Ricardo Montobaln spewing platitudes to the half-crazed :Tatoo.

:Around you, the once-dapper cadets could be heard :readying their soiled uniforms for a twisted :version of the weekly pass-in-review. You were about :to turn inward to try to decide if Tatoo and Mr. Rourke's :relationship was a mere working one or somehow something :more, when you realized that the griping of the cadets around :you had a decidedly dark tone to it. That alone was of little :surprise -- after all, they were possessed and all -- but :you'd been in the marines long enough to hear the truth behind :the growling, screeching, pea-soup-spitting words.

:The academy had a serious morale problem.

:Hope jolted your heart. You could use this knowledge. If only...

:That was when your hand touched the smooth barrel of the shotgun.

:You grinned evily. Now it was time to pay those bastards back. :You decided as you strode towards the door that, if there were :enough left alive, you'd make them watch "Starsky and Hutch"... :in German.

:With thoughts of Phillip Michael Glasier spouting :"Du! Kommen Sie hier!", you pressed the door and watched as it :started sliding upwards...

  9. ACASTLE2.WAD (replaces A_CASTLE.WAD)

A_CASTLE.WAD was messed up. Sorry. This one should be OK, if not, send me e-mail and I'll repost.

This is my first serious attempt. Its a castle complete with a two keeps, a moat, and towers of different height (different from rest of castle...you'll see what I mean).

It's mostly an exercise (in building a castle with different heights) so its not really completed yet (as far as populating it with bad guys), but still playable...in fact, add your own bad guys and go ballistic!

NOTE: Send me e-mail and tell me what you think...

  10. Adam.wad

This is a replacement wad for Episode 1, level 2. It has a few secret areas and only the shotgun to find. This makes the floor much more difficult, but I didn't want to pack a whole episode into one floor. :) The texturing is all lined up so you may have to use a cheat to find the secret areas.

  16. All for One - the First Co-op Only Episode

It seems that Mars wasn't the only world under attack from hell. Your squad of marines has been dispatched to a distant planet where Hell has established a beach- head. You awake from cryo-sleep to the realization that something has gone horribly wrong. Hell knew you were coming. They've tried to stop you. Your ship is under their control.

It's all down to the four of you.

First you must attempt to regain control of the ship. Access to the Armory and shuttle is blocked. The Power Core is overloaded and there's a hull breach in Ship's Services. Multiple Security and Safety fields block your progress. Perhaps you can find an alternate route to the shuttle and use it to abandon ship and head for the Station that orbits your target world. And how did the demons get here, anyway?

Once aboard the station, you must find some way to get down to the surface of the planet and attack the demons on their home ground.

This is quite a huge level. Not very tricky, or difficult for that matter. It's just plain fun "dooming"... Oh, and by the way; your monitor shouldn't be too bright when playing this level - that would spoil the effect of the dark areas.

  23. ALONE.WAD

New level for DOOM based one the house in the game Alone In The Dark. It's designed to be played in Single player mode at difficulty level Hurt me plenty. At easier settings there are fewer monsters, and at harder settings you got more monsters to frag! I haven't forgotten those of you who like to kill your friends (or enemies), of course you can Deathmatch on this level but it's to big to be any fun. Cooperative playing is also implemented. Watch out for QUAKE.WAD on a ftp-site near you soon. This is me and my friends own levels that we use when we get together for deathmatch. It is 6 levels designed to be used as deathmatch with 2-4 players, it's best with 4 players if you like many frags! Also soon QUAKE2.WAD, and HERQUAKE.WAD - this is QUAKE.WAD converted to DOOM 2 and HERETIC. QUAKE2.WAD has an extra level. In the future maybe you will see ALONE2.WAD. This is not Alone In The Dark 2 made as a WAD but ALONE.WAD converted to DOOM2.

The custom textures are fantastic. If you're a mapper seeking a change of pace from the usual Scythe 2 Egypt, both ISIS.wad and Osiris.wad, which provided some resources, permit use of their assets. (Although they would need cleanup to gel with the most polished of modern styles.)   By modern standards, ISIS.wad hasn't held up, either the name or the gameplay. Outside of a few moments, it stays at a difficulty that makes the early parts of Doom 2 feel like a TimeOfDeath map. The bigger issue is that it is also huge and confusing, with progression being lightly marked at best. Near the end, I unwittingly teleported to the start, and I had to reload a save to avoid minutes of backtracking. All the monsters are stock, so if forced to replay it, I'd either use -fast or throw on a gameplay mod that buffs monsters. The saving grace is that the textures make the outdoors and caves look pretty.
The text file suggests using Doom Legacy, but few people in 2020 know what that is. Fortunately, the wad ran perfectly for me in GZDoom. It requires jumping and swimming.   Bumped up a star for the cool assets, especially since many were crafted by the author.

"Aah, that hurts!" It hurts indeed, annoying (movie?) sound clip used for player pain, it hurts a lot. This map is not that atrociously bad, actually. Layout is nice and pretty open, and the "throne" room (without a throne) is the best part of the level, but unluckily there's this teleport crazy thing that runs troughs the various sections of the... castle? Tomb? I see more some kind of castle theme here, but i digress, let's return on topic. Ok, there is this teleport travel stuff all around the map that join together the various sections of the map, at the first time it works fine and it's a pretty cool thing, but then things starts to going crazy after you reach the yellow key door (that is, for some reason, hidden from a computer panel and the switch to reach it is hidden too in a alcove that i had to noclip for reach it) and the teleport in the middle of the rooms that randomly spawns you in some random place, and this by touching a complete random teleport line. Wonderful, you don't have the idea. Also, after taking the red key, i've been stuck for quit a long in the already mentioned "throne room" and i had to cheat for finding my way by noclipping almost half of the map. Gameplay is not hard, but... this thing is unforgiving with you. Forget to take the computer map in the cyb's cage? Forgive even to proceed in the damn map! Miss a switch, a teleport line, anything? Game over, man. Also the thing placement looks like is all around the place sometimes, but that's a (really bad) habit of old time maps... Also, is most probably me that i missed out something, but this map have a exit? I didn't find out in any way! Ah yes, the sound effects are mental, this weird ass shit turns you crazy, if not the bad choices with teleport sections didn't it already. Top class. Also, it uses somes of the zombie voices from Eternal Doom (and before that Laura Bayer)? Ok....   In short: a pretty forgettable 1994 map expect for a pair of locations with some of the ugliest sound effects you can ever heard.

This is a clever early-career speedmap by Obsidian, in one of his favorite settings, a small archvile-infested library. It has a couple of puzzles and much of the combat is unconventional: stuff like tysoning, pacifism, and forced partial invisibility.    The gimmicks aren't bad, and a lot plays well, but I disliked the blue key section:   Two other reviews contain factual misrepresentations: the early revenant can be comfortably skipped until stronger weapons are attained a short time later, and a certain vile trio never appears if you stay pacifist during that one segment. (The map even warns you, through unmissable sector letters that spell "silence.")

In early 2014, in the more innocent landscape BTSX hadn't fully colonized, Memfis invested his quirky energy in making enjoyable maps rather than LARPing as a forum villain. You could say he yakfaked himself before he bzzraked himself.   In Continue, barrels and rockets and plasma -- plus the overpowered SSG -- make for a satisfying five-minute lark through a utility plant. Monsters are skillfully placed for pure satisfaction. The visuals are oldschool, from the Kama Sutra era, and later progression is cool: you parkour like a goat over features that initially seem decorative, and the final area can be accessed in two different, involved ways.
