  2. THE IMP ZONE

You're `Acorn Hardas' and you're NO Green Marine. Problem is, the action ain't been too hot of late and you're not one for looking at yourself in a Hall Of Mirrors ;-) You've been in nothing but trouble with a capital `S' mainly for being Late On Parade, but what do they expect when there's nothing to do but get `spaced out'?

Bringing up the rear guard on yet another routine mission, you keep comming across the toasted remains of your buddy's. Looks like this is the Big One, or is it a scene from that old Twentieth Century, 2D Movie you recall, "Planet of the Apes".

It's time to prove that you ARE a waster, just like your Captain said, but not quite as he meant...

  4. Hellhold

After defeating the Baron in KNEE DEEP IN DEAD, Satan greeted you with a new challenge. He put you on a detour to his personnal playhouse. OH, did I mention, it was in HELL? And the rules aren't fair? You just look, grin, and chuckle. You make the first step toward the playhouse, and you are teleported into the center of it. So now inside of the heart of all that makes evil fun, all you can think about is knocking the crap out of Satan's little hench men.

Playhouse in HELL was fun, but now you're moving past that chaos. You hit the switch to stop this nightmare and continue blowing up all of HELL.. But after you flip the switch, did you leave the Playhouse? You turn and re-open the door. It must've been the Playhouse last trick. You find yourself right at HELL's Mansion. Home of Satan and his creatures. What does one make of this......A MESS that's what. Time to grab up your weapons, move on and continue the trail of blood (and mess Satan's nice floors, hehehe)!

After such a HELLISH night, you decide to return to a nice (yeah right) little hotel you know, The Under Arms. The security and staff of Satan's hotel come out to greet you (and you have a shotgun for them to meet). The creatures around the entrance decide they want a piece of you too! So it would appear that you're going to have one more big confrentation before you can catch your Zzzzzzs! So what are you waiting for, go to it!

E1 styled map, my first try at this theme. Many structures will probably seem familiar, some wont. So far this map works perfectly with Vanilla DooM, but I mainly tested it with DooM Legacy (OpenGl).

  18. HHH-22.WAD

"Well, well, well..." started Hades, "You have solved that little puzzle(*) with amazing speed... Good for you, my boy. How about something tougher?" Answering your icy glance, he quickly added "Okay, just a _little_ tougher..." His wide smile exposed strong and healthy teeth. Suddenly it came to your mind that no one ever saw Hades smiling -- or did not live to tell about it? "The problem is," he continued, "that I have one little palace I don't really like. One architect designed it for me some time ago, he was trying to suck up to me, you know, so I would let him live another 50 years or so. I didn't. Anyway, the place didn't suit my taste, really; it's so small and tight, and definitely not warm enough for a winter palace. So I decided that with some remodeling it would make an interesting puzzle for you. How about it? Oh, come on, I know you start to like these puzzles, don't you?" His voice became more and more patronizing. "It's good, you know, for your body, mind... and speed!" he said, and honoured you with another smile, clearly enjoying himself. Impatience, however, overcame him, and he quickly finished up his monologue -- "You are really good in conversations. It's a pity we've got to go now. I can't wait to see you in that palace. I only wonder how quickly you'll get out of there... IF you'll get out...

  21. HEVNHELL.WAD (Heaven and Hell)

Literally Heaven and Hell. If you can't figure out which way to go to get to Heaven when you start this level you need help. Heaven is simply a large stockpile of weapons, armor, and health bonuses (Apparently the NRA was right). There are also a few of Hell's more putrid denizens placed in cages for your safety and viewing pleasure, so take the opportunity to waste them. Every type of weapon is available in Heaven except for the BFG (is there one? Go to Hell to find out). Hell is a fairly linear place. In Single Player Mode if you die in Hell you are dead and thats that, but for Multi-Player mode, measures have been taken to ensure that any players that die can re-enter Hell safely many times over. This level isn't meant to be tricky or witty, it is purely kill kill kill kill kill kill jump kill.....

  23. Help Out

--attention: the map replaces E3M1!-- So, after the Doomguy kicked the crap out of Hell, the Devil himself understood that if you can't beat him, join him, and those two became friends, so good that Devil promised that he'll reserve a special place in Hell for the Doomguy, if he ever dies. However, in exchange for one little teensy-weensy favour. The Doomguy must clear out a rebelled base in Hell. So, good luck, marine, and don't forget, kill'em ALL! (how do you die in Hell remains unknown...)

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this is a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.
