  4. GIT!

    6 Levels I made during the Epoch of Lawlessness, 1995. {(c) S.A. 1987}

    These have been designed for single player mode, but Deathmatch and Multiple Player games are possible, they just aren't optimised for them. Feel free to do this yourself.

    I could have made an incredibly large single level instead of doing 6 separates, but Doom isn't meant to be played in twenty second bursts while your hard disk desperately tries to catch up on your killings. Also, attention spans waver when you are forced to trek across an immense landscape with your blue key to where you think you saw a blue door. No thanks.

    Any comments welcome. The fact that these were all designed and tested on a 16MHz 386sx should make you appreciate them more. I hope. I've tried them on a DX2, and they were fine, if a little easier. {Thanks to Jason Roycroft for use of his little gem of a PC!}

    When I first started E1M3, I was actually basing the level on the second floor of the Regional Technical College in Tallaght, Dublin. But it was when I had the mezzanine, the foyer, stairs and labs done that I realised my college wouldn't make for a decent Doom level. So everything after that is my imagination. Now there you go.

    There is a hidden swimming pool on E1M4, and credits for the original concept go to the author of Swimpool.wad and to Jens Hykkelbjerg, who keeps a good web page on Doom special effects. Dont try and fix any problems with sectors 108 - 110 because they only work by being inconsistent.

    I've recently added some sounds to the wad, and they replace a few death sounds and others. They are all sampled from audio CD's, so you may recognise a bit of Big Black, The Jesus Lizard, Helmet, Front 242 and Nine Inch Nails.

    Also contained in the zip is a DeHackEd patch... just something to try to add to the whole Git thing. Edit it freely, because it was made from a lot of other DeHackEd patches. I included it simply because its my favourite one.

    Copy them, distribute them...blah...etc...If I chance upon these levels on a bbs or ftp site someplace and this file isnt with them there'll be Hell On Earth. A game which I have never played at home, due to the fact that I dont own a real machine yet.

    ------------------------------------- To run the levels, unzip to your doom directory and enter: GIT -------------------------------------

    I was told that E1M2 is tough to complete without taking a look at the map in DEU. To help you all out, I recorded an .lmp of yours truly finishing the level. To see it in action, make sure all of the Git files are in your Doom directory and then enter: GITHELP This will play the demo for you.

    To create the DeHackEd version, move Git.deh to your DeHackEd directory, then run DeHackEd and press (in this order): Z (zaps changes) L (then, when prompted:) GIT W (writes changes). Then go and play DOOMHACK with the Git levels.

    I must admit I didn't make this WAD. It was created by Ed Ricketts, a writer for the English PC FORMAT magazine, and was featured on the coverdisk.

    It does not work in multi-player mode, and the skill level setting is ignored.

  14. Gonna Kick Your Fucking Ass 1.0

    This is my first WAD I think it turned O.K. There a lot of secrets and all of the weapons are present minus the BFG9000 mainly because in my opinion there is not enough energy cells to power that thing. The exit is in the first room, BUT you have to get all the keys to use it.

    This level is another in the "lucky" series. To play this level w/ any chance of completing it, you must use Super DooM Guns! For any of you with a heart problem or low Dooming ability erase this wad now, it's not worth your time! All others continue reading.

    This level is, as are all in the series, a test for those who think they are adept at Dooming. This level is not impossible, just looks that way at first. Quite a few monsters inhabit the level with increased #s in UV setting. PLEASE DON'T USE THE CHEAT CODES! They won't show you if you are as good as you think you are. Well, GOODLUCK!

    Bye the way, if you like the challenge of this level, call Doomer's Corner and D/L others of the "lucky" series (soon to be a Lucky Pack).

    This is a strictly deathmatch field. It makes you extremely paranoid, there´s almost nowhere to cover your back. You start every time with two weapons: a rocket launcher and a chaingun. A hint: there are two suicide pits, once you enter them you can´t get up. They are both useful and dangerous ;-) : when you are low on ammo, you can commit suicide (there is no extra ammo on the field), but the other players can quite easily get to you. Works best with three or four players, though it´s small, two players may run for a long time without meeting.

  20. GOTCHA 3

    This is a map of an industrial complex. It would seem that there has been some wierd experiments going on with the rival companies in this community. It seems that while you were sleeping in a secluded room, something has happened to the security personnel that has made them into killing machines. It has well lit buildings with lots of windows, the outside is kinda dark. There are quite a few buildings and there is a stream. The weapons in this include the shotgun, chaingun, and rocket launcher, depending on the level of play and what type of play. It is a good deathmatch level.

    This is my best level so far. It turned out pretty nicely, I think. I wanted it to resemble a large gothic cathedral, and it sort of does (nice, huh?). I intend to make an entire episode based on this theme, this being the first level of the episode. I just wanted to get this one out, and let people play it, so I could get some feedback. I really would like to know what you people think of this level! Please?

    NOTE: If you are using anything less than DOOM version 1.666, then you will experience some very, VERY nasty HOM. Please be advised.

    The first level can be played in single player mode, but is also a good Deathmatch level with lots of interconnecting rooms so the players always meet. The second level is primarily for single player with lots of architectural puzzles rather than enemies to fight. Neither are terribly difficult by today's standards, BTW.

      thank god Underhalls was the map that followed this mod as that level was able to remind me what actually competent level design looks like.

      Not that bad, even kind of interesting find the secrets in the map! But yeah, that switches jungle is a awful choice really.

      A basic and nice looking showroom type of map where monsters are trapped inside glass prisons, no exit and no way to play this with any modern source Port like DSDA-Doom and GZDoom, but works really well in Crispy Doom. It was a pleasant experience.

      Conceptually not bad, it's a pretty imposing tower with some decent lighting, but no ammo at all despite having the guns and a VERY obscure way to rise up the floor in the lava pit? That's a big downer. But overall, it's ok.

      Well, the map is pretty basic. The map is quite challenging, with there being 0 ammo pickups (excluding the backpack) outside of the starting room. There are also nazis for some reason. I will give it 2 stars only because this really wasn't meant to be played to be enjoyed, but rather just a example of how to build a map in DEU.
