About This File

So what is "The Return"?

It's several things, but it's mostly a set of resources from the folks who brought you Eternal DOOM and the BOOM engine. In addition there will be levels from a variety of people, and you can be one of those yourself. Read on.

Note: No levels are included in this ZIP file.

We have received many requests over the years to use material from the mega-release Eternal DOOM. You know what we mean - the cool railings, breakable glass, and awesome textures - everything from Medieval to High Tech.

So here is our gift to you:

We are releasing the entire Eternal DOOM Resource WAD as a publicly available resource. That's right! Now you can use the entire Eternal DOOM resource (plus all the new resources released for "The Return") to decorate your levels.

Excellent, but dated.

Excelent resource wad. Lots of textures, various themes. Maybe not the best art, but one the best all-around texture packs. The only thing i dont like is the restrictive "license" 5 stars for me. I don't care about its age :)

Have it but find it completley useless. Too many textures. Also too many of them are more dark\brown\medieva l based. -Killmur-

Lots of textures, true, but many are dated. TeamTNT doesn't exactly produce quality art (see Daedalus) with some exceptions. Good if you want to build some castles and not rip Hexen's textures (though there are some Raven textures here as well :P ) 3 stars due to age.

Download the REAL file here (rd1.zip is NOT correct) https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/megawads/d64d2   Shocked to see so many negative reviews. I had an absolute blast with this one, and I'm not sure what Nems was talking about with the Boom stuff as this runs in Doom2.exe with no trouble. In fact, there is a TON of impressive vanilla stuff going on here. I guess it was so well done that it tricked him.   This deserves a high score. It's a lot of fun.

It definitely makes Doom look darker, but also slightly changes colors (it reminds me PSX Doom). I prefer original Doom colors and miss how it looked on CRT (almost same colors as with modern monitors, but less brightness and maybe more contrast).

Great spirit/item placements, and also nice trap placements. Textures are georgeous and scream "1980's sci-fi action movie".

Some very cool techbases with a nice texture set and pallette.  The music is pretty epic.  And it all runs in vanilla! (Or so it is said, I played it in GZDoom)

I honestly can't believe that this whole megawad is 100% vanilla compatible and its only the first of THREE episodic megawads! Esselfortium and her team of creative energetic mappers has done an amazing job from the unique texture set, the music, the maps & even the tweaked color palette that fits the mood of the whole thing.    100% highly recommended! 5/5
