Pretty good early mapset. The only map I could not stand was the sewer level near the beginning. I'm sorry, but that was just unacceptable.

Would recommend to other fans of 90s mapsets!

Memento Mori's rawer, bloodier brother. Taking into account that the megawad was first released in 1996 (the 1999 date on the text file is from a bugfix release) and that the levels were made in a very crash-prone tool, I'd say this turned out as well as it could. Sure, the levels won't win any beauty contest (although MAP12 is quite easy on the eye) and the encounter design isn't tightly tuned to still be influential today like Plutonia, but who cares if it's still a blast to play? I wonder what the team is up to these days... ;)

Really awesome mapset.

Realm of Chaos is a mapset that seriously needs more love as is one of the best megawads from the good old times pre-Alien Vendetta boardtable kicking style.

Steve Duff (7 maps) and Rob Bercowitz (10 maps) are the show stealers here.

Steve D maps are marvelous, with an amazing sense of place semi reallistic areas usually big and interconnected.

Rob B maps are really abstract in design but they play really good and make use of interesting gimmicks.

The rest of the maps are of medium quality, some a bit better than the others, but none is remarkable.

What i found really interesting of this mapset is that there is a backstory, and also the maps follow it pretty much.

Map11 for example ends with the player taking a ship to earth, and the map is a tech base launching pad.

For a mapset coming out from 1996 its totally amazing.

I remember playing this mapset long ago, around 2001 or so and really enjoying it, but as a lot of megawads i played at that time, i didn't finished it as i was absorbed on a RPGish craze.

So revisiting this mapset was a joy nonstop: above average design for the time it was made, awesome encounters, challenging and fun, and some really marvelous and awe inspiring sights.

Port Fury by Steve D is certainly my favourite map from this set.

I liked this mapset soo much that i made a new status bar based on the TITLEPIC  and a new dehacked patch for it with map names and new text screens to a read the story along.

Aside from that, its a shame TMT not released any other project as here is a lot of raw potential to be exploited.

Thanks god, Steve D continue mapping to these days and his style become even better of what he already was.

Thanks Team TMT, this mapset is surelly one of the best from the old times along Memento Mori II.

- Above average conventional map design, a couple of bad maps like map 28

- Most maps are too bright

- Not challenging even at UV

- Some traps you cannot get out of (Bugs?)

- I probably will not play it again

I have rated this three stars.

However, I feel like this megaWAD often gets overlooked despite what it is: a part of history. I came to it late, pretty much 1999/2000-ish, and was my first megaWAD personally, but I was always entranced by what I understood to be the story behind it; in a scene utterly dominated by the IBM PC-compatibles/DOS crowd and their (relative) wealth of tools, Macintosh DOOMers came together to show that they too can put together a full-length campaign for Doom II that wasn't going to let those DOS guys totally steal the show.

And they did. Kind of. With the apparently-unstable-at-best HellMaker crashing every single-figure number of minutes at times, a handful of eager mappers (including the still-active-at-time-of-writing Steve Duff), some of which were authoring their first ever maps, delivered an experience that is to me as interesting as it is varied; in terms of both experience and quality, I have to admit. There are some poor maps here (Sewers, by Jim Bagrow - I'm looking right at you) but there are some epic adventures rivalling those of TNT: Evilution, if not aesthetically (hey, some of them come close) then in length and spectacle.

What you're getting here is almost like a hidden piece of history that I feel stands proudly as an underdog with its peers. An underdog that isn't always well-behaved (many maps can be rendered uncompletable with the wrong actions taken, including one of the secret maps if you dare enter the basement without the three keys) but at its best (which is usually the maps by Rob Berkowitz or Duff himself) is an entertaining and oft-neglected slice of '90s mapping.

falls into the category of completely average late 90's megawad, with generally low quality maps with varied gameplay. it's quite easy to tell the mappers styles apart from each other. so apparently it was for the Macintosh, which you don't hear much about anyways. Steve Duff, better known as SteveD is the most notable member, although Rob Berkowitz made more maps and Clint Sago was the lead. Steve and Rob basically carried the project, having the best overall maps along with Slava Pestov, who for some reason had a very notable form of platform that was in place in many maps. weird, huh? too bad the quality of the set as a whole needed to be better. SteveD highly improved since then, but many of the authors aren't around anymore. not a whole lot of real highlights, although they all certainly tried their best.

One of the first fanwad I played. Good memories, still come back on it time to time because even though there is this godforsaken sewers map and some uninspired stuff, it's still very fun to play through and definetely has it's great moments.

Mostly on the lower end of the quality scale and blighted by occasional moments of unintuitive progression and other flaws that would be considered bad design in modern times but an element of forgiveness can perhaps be extended considering the WADs age.

Great WAD! The mapset and design reminds me a lot of HR, in fact, I consider this one to be an "easy" version of Hell Revealed, that's why I like it so much :) You might not agree with me about this though... It's a pity RoC doesn't have it's own music but that's why I use HR music when I play it - it goes with this WAD very well. Sure, it looks pretty obsolete even for '99, TeamTNT made much better looking WADs back in '96-'97, but I still think it's underrated. 4/5, recommended! :)

This was a reasonably good megawad for its time. Sure the levels look plain even back then when you compared it against Memento Mori however it was still a blast to play through

The best you can do without great number of new sprites, textures and music.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.

What the actual f*ck is this map. I love having 4 rockets, a shit ton of bullets and like 10 shotgun shells to take out a revenant, and whatever was in that cage. Doesn't look too bad, maybe this negativity is cus im no expert, also rather unskilled at the game?

thank god Underhalls was the map that followed this mod as that level was able to remind me what actually competent level design looks like.

Not that bad, even kind of interesting find the secrets in the map! But yeah, that switches jungle is a awful choice really.
