Misc. Author Info : This is the second WAD I've made.
Description : A one level wad, however you may think it is more like 3-4 levels combined due to it's complexity! You have been sent in to guard an ancient ruin. You're trip will take you through sewers, caverns, and a romanesque type city. For those of you editors out there who are curious as to JUST how big this WAD is, it originally was one level with over 1700 monsters (yes, one seven zero zero), 700 sectors, and 3,700 linedefs. This WILL take even the best players AT LEAST 20-30 minutes to beat. And that's after you already know where you're supposed to go! I play this and have fun, and I already know where everything is!
I originally had these two levels combined into one. However, due to limitations on the DOOM engine, when trying to save your game it would cause doom (and very possibly the computer to crash). So as a work around I had to split this into two levels, the second basically just being the continuation of the first one.
This WAD also originally had difficulty settings and multiplayer, however those both had to be axed in order to just make the WAD playable and able to save. I even went as far as to build a reject table, which noticably speeds up gameplay. Those of you out there should know that most home made WADS lack this feature, slowing things down a bit.
I originally constructed this WAD when I was a senior in HS; took me about 2 months...only to complete it and find the thing didn't work. And basically that was the little nudge I needed to stop playing doom for a LONG time. So now it's about four years later - long after doom was popular and anyone is still REALLY interested - and I stumbled onto this thing hiding in the depths of my old Mac Performa HD collecting more dust. Well I figured there must be one or two people out there who still have slow computers - ones that can only play the older games like doom at an acceptable speed. So what the hell! It was a very boring, rainy, uneventful day in the northeast and I figured I might as well finish this. I know I put enough work into it originally. Hopefully, somebody out there will one day appreciate this level. This is a quality level, which I know for sure is few & far between when it comes to home made DOOM 2 levels. Very challenging, fun, and there is a lot of ingenious secrets to keep you looking. Try not to use IDDT - that will take away from the experience.
Also look for the one other WAD I created - PRISON.WAD - also much fun and challenging - it will make you actually think as opposed to just running around shooting things with no strategy (don't worry, there's still plenty of that mixed in).
