About This File

These are eight levels of a whole set of Doom ][ levels by Berthold Beckschäfer and Thomas Lokum. In contrast to many Wads abroad, this one has been styled thoroughly paying attention to the correct arrangement of textures, a logical level layout et cetera. Be prepared to solve a puzzle or two as well. Of course this does not mean we forgot to put in a good bunch of monsters!

Back in the 90's, if someone had said "a Doom wad from 2000" this is basically what you'd expect. Lots of mapping/dehacked trickery, forcing the game to do cool things it was not intended to do. The Heretic map and custom actors were really impressive for a 15 year old product. Well done!

Starts out really awful, you need persistence to make it passed the first 2/3 maps. However later on there is some really cool stuff to see: Sentry guns that can be armed / disarmed, some neat fake 3D effects, a minefield, a hostage rescue, a level full of evil marines, a cool heretic level... People who make maps may find this interesting. dwrTag

Authors show a lot of technical skills, and overall decoration is very good and sometimes even excellent. However, besides too many very cramped places, poor routing and bad fights, a zillion of invisible blocking lines frustrate the gameplay horribly. As gameplay is the most important aspect, I sadly cannot give more than 2*. Quite a pity.

Interesting ideas. Lot's of cool stuff. You have to escort a lady that shows her tits. But had me running around searching what to do next in most levels. 4.5/5 - Optimus

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this is a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.
