About This File

This level attempts to recreate that quintessential experience that Episode 1 of DOOM instilled in me.

This level is actually a duplicate of exper.zip (uploaded only a few weeks ago). Someone must have slipped it through under a different zip file and filenames but both the map and the text file inside that zip are exactly the same. Anyway, I agree with (both) /newstuff reviews of the map (see /newstuff chronicles on Nov 12 2000 and Jun 20 2009); it's a good map, but not sure we need it twice. Not a big deal though; just wanted to point it out.

There is misalignment of textures, large places and empty corridors, thousands of monsters everywhere. But it was fun and quite difficult.4 stars - Doomaniac.

Mindless action in boring surroundings. Plays alright. 1 star --- Starburst.

Absolutely epic. This level seems to have lots of architecture from episode 1, but tons of original new stuff too. The theme was consistent throughout, and you kept true to the original theme of episode 1 by not using any registered content. It was quite confusing to navigate however, but the gameplay was superb. Hats off to you sir! 5/5! From Nixot.

Big does not mean interesting... this level is a kind of (awful) "tribute" to some levels of the original Doom, which parts have been put here and there. Unfortunately, the author seems to have no idea of what "level designing" means, and drew blunt corridors between the pieces of levels he stole. Dispensable. Magma.

Great megawad that re-imagines Doom 2 how it should have been: With recognizably earth like settings. The maps look generally very realistic with some really good Doom cute furniture and the occasional funny vignette. Gameplay stays classic and imho on the easier side, which is a welcome treat in times of slaughtermaps and too much actual mapping, thus not having enough times to actually play Doom. This is no Sandy Peterson or overly hellish WAD mind you. You do get some hellish hellscapes in later maps, but the majority is earth-like and rather corridor focused. Enemy encounters are on the traditional side as well, with almost nothing standout, except that weird "Warehouse Siege" map that features what felt like 1,000 Archviles. I did not know how to progress there and had to cheat in the end, other than that you can pretty traditional encounters which means a shotgunner around the corner, and a pinky in the sewer, etc.   Even so, the really great design and occasional custom textures make this a standout WAD that traditionalists definitely want to check out.

This turns the game into a third-person shooter with a fox as the main actor. It also adds cool sound clips.   I give it five stars, because turning the game into a third person shooter by just exchanging the weapon graphics is cool and works very good. It's not that i stay with it for a longer time, but it has my intellectual respect!   Greetings Funduke

      Just ended this megawad.
Its fast pumping action on really short and moderatelly challenging maps. i really like it, and the soundtrack is one of the best!!!

Thank you Paul Cofiatis for this megawad. Hope you can give us more awesome and entertaining mapsets like this one.

If John Romero claimed this map as his. I'd believe him until how I found out how to reach the blue key on the ledge.

      I'm stealing that trick.
