About This File

It's a map with a hellish theme, and it's my first map with that style. But this map is one of my very first maps, I did only add some new rooms and details.

There's not really much about this map I can say that wasn't already mentioned in NuMetalManiak's review. This map from the same author of "Hell Factory" also unfortunately shares a lot of its same flaws, such as the small, orthogonal rooms and tedious switch hunting. There is definitely much more to the gameplay and level layouts, though. Seeing the vast improvements between the two PWADs makes me long for a Hell Factory Hub Two, perhaps sometime after the release of Mordeth E2? 3.5/5

the name Painful Evil may not ring a bell for most people who play the most famous wads, but this one-map wad landed as one of the Top 100 WADs and is in fact, rather painful to play through. the overall style of the level would resemble something that would feel right at home in an E4-themed levelset, but the difficulty of the map is more in line with Plutonia, utilizing some claustrophobic battles and a surprising amount of chaingunners. some of the progression could have been better here, most notably with those blue bars being rather misleading when you figure out what to do with the blue key. also there's some backtracking, which is ruined not by the sheer boredom of backtracking in general (you get plenty of enemies to deal with) but rather having to traverse across damaging blood which I don't like at all. the overall feel is quite steady, giving a hard start, but keeping things hard enough all the way to the end, just don't get too surprised by the end cyber.

A cool hellish level with very good visuals and tense atmosphere. It puts pressure on you from the start; unfortunately the challenge peters out a bit towards the end, but it remains fun throughout. The progression can be cryptic at times because of the mystery switches which open doors far away, but it's not a sprawling level and you shouldn't get lost.

I found it extremely unbalanced at beginning because there were many powerful enemies and I didn't had weapons/ammo to deal with them and I died about 15 times in this map! Have the author tested the map before uploading? I found it unfair sometimes but halfway seemed better. The battle with cyber at end wasn't that hard compared to the battles I had earlier (I played with AEOD and boss at end was Eidolon from HeXeN 2). An OK map that could had difficulty decreased. 3/5 -Doomer95

This is dated December 2000. You fight 215 baddies in a compact, E4-themed trapathon that has a touch of Malcolm Sailor about it. Starts off tricky, but slowly wimps out until a fairly dull cyberbattle at the end. Suffers from a deliberately bass-ackwards progression that forces you to backtrack a lot and seems designed to just irritate the player. Not bad overall though. When I played it I couldn't get 100% kills; three cacodemons decided to sit out the carnage.

One of those maps that looks really nice and plays well, but isn't quite perfect. A strong layout and decent gameplay give it a boost, but sometimes the flow can't be a bit off, with triggers affecting areas that aren't immediately obvious. Also, I'd say it's a bit light on challenge, with a couple of soulspheres and a megasphere secret that makes it a walk in the park. 4/5 -Snakes

I thought this was kinda rubbish. The visuals are stunning, very well-themed and precise, it looks great! The gameplay leaves alot to be desired. Difficult enemies in small groups with forgiving cover makes you basically just hang back and snipe everything you can. It gets tedious. Megasphere, Soulspheres and Blue Armor are really overpowering. Cyberdemon battle way too easy. Very talented mapper, just needs to focus. 2/5 j

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.

What the actual f*ck is this map. I love having 4 rockets, a shit ton of bullets and like 10 shotgun shells to take out a revenant, and whatever was in that cage. Doesn't look too bad, maybe this negativity is cus im no expert, also rather unskilled at the game?

thank god Underhalls was the map that followed this mod as that level was able to remind me what actually competent level design looks like.

Not that bad, even kind of interesting find the secrets in the map! But yeah, that switches jungle is a awful choice really.

A basic and nice looking showroom type of map where monsters are trapped inside glass prisons, no exit and no way to play this with any modern source Port like DSDA-Doom and GZDoom, but works really well in Crispy Doom. It was a pleasant experience.
