About This File

This is an experimental PWAD file for use with DOOM. It is rather simple since I cannot generate the nodes structure for anything much more complex than this. This level has been generated entirely by hand. No editors were used to produce it.

I would give this 0/5, but by hand, 10/5

Because of its historic significance, I'm giving this level a higher rating than I would have otherwise given...2 stars.

Hehe, GZDoom doesn't like the nodes very much. The doorway HOMs a lot. But 5 stars for being the start of such a glorious hobby.

Guess what? this map has a time to crate rating of infinity so it must be a great map! lolz, this map is good anyways. two barons, a shotgun guy, some imps, a door and exit switch. Can you survive? 5 stars just for the time to crate rating alone. -z34chris (be sure to check out my udmforig.wad)

5/5. Probably the worst map ever created, but the historical value is enormous.

Crude and short, but it was the first ever Doom wad, so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. 3/5

So epic, made with nothing but a text editor in either DOS or perhaps Windows 3.1. Either way, Impressive! This started level making for doom.

^yes it does, I have tried myself. You don't have to use mods, maybe it doesn't work if you play with mods but I have done in unmodified Doom. Seriously, it doesn't matter if you use source ports (although I prefer to play all original IWADS with Chocolate Doom) here I used ZDoom. Also you need to rename ORIGWAD.PWD to ORIGWAD.WAD to make it work. Probably that's why doesn't work for you. Anyway that was me Doomer95/FistMarine.

This looks actually nice for being the first wad. Though you used a shotgun, a shotgunner, 2-3 imps and TWO (!) barons! Do you have any idea how hard is to kill a baron with only bare fists? No kidding. However I finished it in first try in 3:33 without dying and most important, with 100% health (no, I didn't use God Mode cheat) but I just was lucky enough to dodge all Barons' projectiles. I will give it a 5/5 for being the first wad. Played with ZDoom 2.6.1 -Doomer95

The very first PWAD... and it's just about what you'd expect. Two rooms connected by a single door, with 6 monsters. Still, it seems to be free of errors (not counting unaligned textures). Interesting, legendary, and of course an obligatory --5/5

Score, the very first WAD. Maybe not the best, but I think it's a big accomplishment. BTW, my first comment on anything here. >.> --Crazee Boy

Quote: 'First DooM wad ever'. This is not true. Note that the date of the wad file is 7-3-1994. Now I have here 4 levels from 18-1-1994 to 18-2-1994, so all earlier. Largest level is 102 KB, and most have for that very early time impressive gameplay. So this one is not the first one, and from these 5 maps it is by far the most simple one. Rated in this context: 1/5 for being created by hand (taken that for being true).

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.
