Vrack 2

About This File

This is a giant space station in the gray and tech theme. It is crumbling with hellspawn and filled with deadly traps.
This is a little more like I wanted to have the original Vrack. More detail, more metal, more big enemies, less linear. I have spent a LOT of time with this level, so I hope it gets better than its precursor.
But it was a very hard mission. Vrack was believed by many to be one of the best levels ever created. In most aspects, I think Vrack 2 improves over Vrack. But there are some things, such as the caco intro in Vrack, that in my opinion were perfect - and really hard to substitute :| ...
Still, I hope you will find this level enjoyable!

A map I discovered ages ago and still play quite often. This is one of my favourite maps. I love the aesthetics of it - tech/space station. It is much bigger than the first vrack but basically the same, but better. It's fairly old school in style (no slaughtery bits) but can get quite hectic. There is quite a bit of searching and backtracking when looking for keys or switches, but that is no issue usually - especially as the level design and architecture are superb...

A definite one to play.

Very nice map, only the end-battle could have been bigger, and there are some mean ambushes. Apart from that it looks and plays great, and you gotta love the cacos owning the cybers :) 5/5

FFS, there's a whole bunch of links near the top of this page. And 5 stars, of course.

Good map layout, texture use, decoration & ambiance. Great gameplay @ UV is challenging with plenty of smart traps (f.e. yellow key vrs 24 revenants: looks impossible, but is quite easy); however, due to the map size the fights gets a bit repeatable, not the least because of the time it takes for causing infights again and again. Cacos versus cybies fights are fun, spiders vrs arachnotrons a bit dull. Overall: solid 4/5.

Almost as good as the first. Or in other words, another excellent level that follows on quite well. It's tougher than the first Vrack, and a little bigger too. Plasma is hidden well on here, so look out for it. Still worthy of a 5 because the fun factor is in spades. -TRRobin.

This map was ok but not that good. It's overhyped
and not as detailed or well designed as people say
but maybe enjoyable to play through if you're bored.

Much better than the first Vrack. Excellent clear design, no monotonous sections, coherent theme, monsters everywhere, couldn't be better.

Whoever wrote that first review obviously hasn't actually played the map.

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.
