About This File

This is a compilation of the WADs entered in Doomworld's sixth speedmapping exercise. Participants were given 120 minutes to create a Doom 2 level on a certain theme. This week's theme was to build a new final level for Doom 2. A longer explanation can be found below.

for the sixth iteration of dwspd, the theme was to build a "new final level for Doom 2", which of course doesn't necessarily entail having an IOS. indeed, all but two maps have IOS though, and most are made into arenas. as you'd easily expect, there's not a single one of these that's done better elsewhere, but some are naturally better than others. Fredrik, once again, manages to have the most interesting map, a blood-filled arena which takes a lot of time and has multiple spawners, the goal is to reveal the Romero head by entering teleporters then hitting switches, doing it about 4 times. it's way harder than the rest of the set, most of which is really small in arena size except MAP11 which manages to be a little more interesting. there's an E3M1, but it sucks and has no exit. MAP07 also seems to deliberately not have an exit either. to be frank, this is among the weaker dwspd's.

I liked Map 04 also. Map 01, Map 05, and E3M1 all suck.

Map01 and Map02 are so simple they hurt. Map03 proves to be an interesting challenge, aside from the cyber, this one's pretty easy. Map04 is the best from them all. Map05 has a good design, but the IoS looks kinda messy. The rest of the maps suck too, and the Doom1 doesn't have an exit button or something

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.
