About This File

This level was used for testing my own DOOM editor. I've put a *lot* of time into this level to make it very playable, and visually appealing.

A map so utterly boring and devoid of anything special, that it blows the mind. Maybe I'm just jaded after all these years of playing Doom levels, but whatever. It's certainly not bad for 1994, but it's just so mundane that it seems so. 3/5

I was very impressed with this level, this is what Doom is all about and these are the types of level I just wanna see more of. It combines Episode 1,2 and 3 into one impressive level and the Shotgun Guys make it hell hard. I doubt this wad author is around or can be contacted anymore with his final release in 1995. 4.5 Stars/5 -PC

The prequel is in the archives as id=14318. This level is much larger than its predecessor. It's a polished level that has a genuine E1 atmosphere. It's great fun to play, the difficulty level is just right, and the design and traps etc are excellent for 1994. It could be released tomorrow as a note-perfect retro level and no-one would know. It's not ground-breakingly stunning, it's just very very good, especially for the period.

Excellent map for 1994. Funny, I was waiting for the ambush that never came... I think that was worse. A must download for all you old timers. 4/5 -jb

ah, Richard Wiles, known for his gameplay-oriented style in wads like Crusades and Slayer. this one is considerably more open and as a result easier, but it still has its fun moments. the beginning for instance, heading all the way down the hall and collecting a yellow key just for imps to show up behind. pretty neat. the other keys are pretty easy though there's some weird design decisions going on here. the northern end of the map is quite open, with a bit of back-and-forth with raising bridges to the center, then fighting a cyberdemon and other monsters before shooting a core. that's basically the walkthrough for this mostly above average level. pretty decent, but not entirely memorable.

The map feels interesting, fresh and new in the beginning, with you feeling like a part of a grand army assault under oppressive enemy fire. Unfortunately it's not long before your comrades are all dead, you find yourself all alone against an entire army, and tedium sets in. The map is RIDICULOUSLY difficult; I'm not kidding when I say you're likely to die every few seconds and need to reload over and over and over again (especially due to these damn machine-gun emplacements), which ceases to be fun real quick.

A very nice-looking, fun, and satisfyingly challenging map with some large-scale epic architecture. Well worth checking out.

      Boring and painfully unfunny.
