About This File

This is a compilation of the WADs entered in Doomworld's seventeenth speedmapping exercise. Participants were given 100 minutes to create a Doom 2 level on a certain theme. This week's theme was to build a canyon.

here for the seventeenth installment of dwspd, the theme is to build a canyon. like the previous installment, this is a relatively common theme for mapping, therefore the maps are expected to be pretty decent, and well they mostly deliver. once again Fredrik's map is the first one, and it blows everything else out of the water. kind of a bad thing to make it the first map to be honest though, because it could make some players believe that the other maps after it would be just as good, but that won't be the case when you play the rest, as they don't really have as much bite as that one does. to further exemplify that, once again the MAP02 slot is disappointing in comparison, while MAP06 and MAP07 are both unfinished (nothing but layout in MAP06, while it's pretty much impossible to get the red key in MAP07. not the worst to offer, and Fredrik's map serves as an insane opening challenge.

I can't pick a good one out of this series because a good one doesn't exist. 4/4/07

The first level is extraordinary in play! Whoever wrote the first review must not have bothered to play it! Best wad ever... Most "free runs" in any wad, yet still must gather keys for each challenging stage... Wish i could see more like this one...

thank god Underhalls was the map that followed this mod as that level was able to remind me what actually competent level design looks like.

Not that bad, even kind of interesting find the secrets in the map! But yeah, that switches jungle is a awful choice really.

A basic and nice looking showroom type of map where monsters are trapped inside glass prisons, no exit and no way to play this with any modern source Port like DSDA-Doom and GZDoom, but works really well in Crispy Doom. It was a pleasant experience.

Conceptually not bad, it's a pretty imposing tower with some decent lighting, but no ammo at all despite having the guns and a VERY obscure way to rise up the floor in the lava pit? That's a big downer. But overall, it's ok.

Well, the map is pretty basic. The map is quite challenging, with there being 0 ammo pickups (excluding the backpack) outside of the starting room. There are also nazis for some reason. I will give it 2 stars only because this really wasn't meant to be played to be enjoyed, but rather just a example of how to build a map in DEU.
