This patch makes Final Doom's "The Plutonia Experiment" easier. I was really annoyed when I started playing "Plutonia" and found that I couldn't even beat it on the lowest skill setting. I'm only an average player (Doom2 on Ultra-Violence is comfortable) so I'm sure I'm not the only person who had trouble with The Plutonia Experiment.

I wanted to make a simple patch rather than fine-tune every level. I gave up on The Plutonia Experiment after only a few levels mainly because of the Chain-Gunners (long- distance snipers and ambushers who suddenly pop up out of nowhere). So, is all this patch does is get rid of the Chain-Gunners and fix the ammo imbalance caused by the missing chainguns.

Here's a list of the changes: - changed Chain-Gunners to Shotgun Sargeants - swapped chainguns and shotguns - swapped bullets and shells - added the chaingun back to map01 (otherwise you wouldn't get it until map05)

Just downloaded it to test how much easier Plutonia gets. Sadly, it's not worth it. Not even one bit. Since the author will never, ever read this, I will just advise all following visitors not to try this; it will permanently change PLUTONIA.WAD, and if you have no backup, you're kinda screwed. Anyways, 0/5. Keep trying kid

Hello. I've downloaded this mod to see if it was worth... it's not. Sadly, I didn't made a copy of Plutonia first, so you owe me a original Plutonia IWAD file. Because your mod SUCKS! Plutonia is already easy! Why do you need to make it so easy that it's not worth playing? See you on youtube: "Shittiest Doom MOD ever made." Oh, BTW: 0/5. -Martin ... I just saw that I redownloaded Plutonia again! Phew...

Looks like Sparky needs some skill tuning for Plutonia or is too slow in reaction time. How does swapping shotguns for chainguns and chaingunners for seargeants gonna help unless you have good evasion skills? 0/5

Doom 2 on skill 4 is much harder than Plutonia on skill 1. You should be able to beat it. Learn to strafe (and circle-strafe), hide behind cover, conserve and use ammo wisely, and save often. Plutonia is definitely beatable for an average player, it just takes a little more effort. You gave up too soon. -Stormwalker

Sure, feel free to have fun pistoling the bigger enemies to death on maps with no chaingun. Skill 2 is the way to go on Plutonia if you want it easy. The Casalis put effort into making it fun, balanced and easy. Same for HR, which has finely tuned battles that an automated substitution will royally screw up.

If you really think you can beat Doom 2 on Skill 4 and not Plutonia on Skill 1, I think you really can. Making this patch to replace chaingunners with shotgunners doesn't do any good here. You shouldn't have much trouble with Plutonia on skill 1, but you can't just give up just because it's too hard. Give it a little more effort instead of making a stupid patch to make the game easier than it's supposed to be. Otherwise, what's the point of having a challenge in the game and building experience if the game has no purpose?

 

Some people may find it useful but as for you, the uploader, I think you need to make the description more clear. You could just say "This patch is for people who have trouble with Plutonia even on the easiest difficulty" in the description instead of saying that you can beat Doom 2 on skill 4 and not Plutonia on Skill 1.

This isn't a half bad idea, as Plutonia is my favourite doom level pack but not instantly accessible to people who never played Doom. However, replacing chaingunners with shotgunners? Lamest idea ever. 0/5

Why do u need to make a wad that takes away all the fun and challenge out of Plutonia into a complete baby game? Plutonia is supposed to be difficult. That's so dumb. If you at least tried putting a little bit more effort on skill 1 of Plutonia, you shouldn't have any problems at all. If you really can beat doom 2 on UV, Plutonia on skill 1 should not be hard for you. Replacing chaingunners with sergants is the dumbest way to make Plutonia easier.

Who cares how it was supposed to be, people are free to modify it however they want and there is nothing wrong with that. We live in a time of the wonderful cultural shift where people can not just consume art works, but also rearrange and reorganize them to their own needs. Anyway, this patch does exactly what the readme says and some people might find it useful so there's just no reason to rate it 0 stars.

The idea has merit, but it would have been simpler to just swap in chainguns in place of every heavy weapons dude. And it could have probably been done with DeHackEd instead of modifying the IWAD. But why bother though - everything went downhill after DOOM Episode 3 (except for Heretic).

      Umm... this isnt Doom 64? Or even remotely related to it?   In addition, its a shitty wad. You are expected to fight 2 arch-viles with a pistol, and then a cyberdemon witha  chaingun in an enclosed space.

      Should have been called "Doom 64 for Boom".   I really wanted to like this more. I mean, I do like it but I feel like the gripes I have regarding it just bring my overall rating for it down too much.   It was interesting to see how, at first, the authors recreated the Doom 64 levels in Doom 2 with just vanilla assets. You can still see some of that in the Boom levels like how revenants and arch-viles are used in place of where traps where. That was an interesting touch and I liked that.   As I got further into it though and more of the Boom tricks were used my thoughts wandered from "hey this is a nice vanilla interpretation" to "man I could be playing Doom 64 EX or Doom 64 Retribution". I really wish they would have stuck with vanilla constraints for this reinterpretation. I would have liked to see how they would have handed nightmare monster placement (would a nightmare imp be worth two imps or three, for example). I feel like using Boom and DeHacked cheapened the experience, like they were trying to replicate Doom 64 as close as possible rather than doing a vanilla Doom (2) interpretation.   Additionally, map 30 can fuck right the hell off with that puzzle bullshit.   Anyway, if you don't mind any of the complaints I made, you'll likely have fun with this. I got some fun out of this as well but to me it feels like it's trying to be exactly like Doom 64 rather than simply a vanilla Doom 2 interpretation of Doom 64. In trying to be exactly like Doom 64, it just makes me want to play that more than this.

      Despite its age, nice details and well designed. Way how blue key is hidden is really clever. But map is dark and cramped. Enemies are only imps and hitscanners.
