I downloaded this .WAD expecting low-sample-rate recordings of outdated emulators horrifically trying to emulate the NES's APU, given its age and the shout-out to NESticle in the .txt, but to my surprise this doesn't sound bad at all (though now I wish there was a .wad that replaces sounds with ones recorded from outdated versions of NESticle or iNES). The sound effects chosen fit their purposes well and are not as grating as one might expect, though some are a bit too long for my liking. As another commenter pointed out, this .WAD mainly uses "stereotypical" sound effects, more specifically, from games that were most popular on the NES in America. This is not necessarily a bad thing though. Lastly, it seems that some SFX are not replaced (for example, the Mancubus wake-up sound is not replaced even though its other SFX are), but this could be an issue on my end as other reviews don't seem to mention this.

Pretty cool on paper, and ingame it's still pretty cool. However, I personally wish that the author would have used less recognizable and stereotypical sounds. Being able to instantly recognize sounds from games like Mario and Sonic at The North Korea Olympic Games kind of cheapens the intended effect, because I have already heard all of these sound effects tens of thousands of times. Therefore, it gets a bit grating and ends up feeling like a cheesy gimmick and not something I'd actually want to use more than once, which sucks because there are certain wads that would work well in conjunction with this mod.

Very fun and well made sound mod. Love the punch-out/contra sequences each time you kill a SM or a cyberdemon. Check the video to hear this forgotten masterpiece

Awesome! It's really funny and you soon forget you're playing Doom! I also like the touch with the Spider Mastermind's "sight" sound! - 4/5

Well, that was quick, ehhh? But anyone can call me by a silly name! Who are you? You're just the word "moron" with with a shift-6 next to it. It's not even in a sentence. You just typed a few letters and moved on. That is the extent of your criticism. For all I know that's a glitch in the system which randomly outputs a gang of symbols that just happened in this case to look like 'moron' beside a caret.

It's one that doesn't entertain for long. But when it does, it's good.

Brilliantly done and hilarious, too. It is like playing Doom in an early-80s video game arcade, with blips and boops. Best of all, the new sounds aren't grating and irritating, so you can actually use them. The "gibbing" sound is the best.

Again? Who keeps uploading my stupid old doom junk all over the place? Nobody's ever said a word to me about this. Not.a.word. Nobody ever said "I like/don't like some dumb thing you made five years ago. May I subject it to a questionable rating system and arbitrarily hack up your original description on a different website without giving you a chance to make any changes this apparent interest may have suddenly inspired within you?" Since it does have a nostalgia factor for anyone who has played the NES it does not quite contend with the nostalgia of SPKRSND.wad for doom, a pc game. Still a great soundpack that was executed very well!

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this is a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.
