About This File

A 32 level megawad for doom2. This megawad doesn't have perfect texture alignment, insane detail and fantasticly hard gameplay. Instead it focuses on small fun maps to blast through without much thought about defense. The difficulty rises steadily as you go through the maps and the last few should challenge even the best.

Truely an awesome wad. Nearly all maps are small (exceptions are 29, 30, ?19), but they all look & play great. Unless you hate small maps, this wad is an absolute don't miss. On a side note, a very clever trick is used in Map28 (Run From It); I had to read some and take a peak in an editor to see how it's done. Basically, there's a seperate Player1 start in an area which can't be reached, and a crusher takes about 30 seconds to reach (and kill) that player. When that player is killed, so are you.

No doubt the best in the Scythe series. I always en up playing at least 5-6 maps when my initial plan was to play onely one or two. That is evidence of great maps/gameplay :) 5*, well deserved.

I havn't had this much fun since i first fired up doom. The only people who wouldn't like this wad are people who havn't played it, or are in the cracker box.

Definitely in my top5 of best WADs ever. It has short and powerful maps, with well thought-out layout and seriously one of the greatest atmospheres I've ever encountered in a Doom WAD. Map19 is probably my most favorite map ever, but that's also due to the song which fits perfectly to the theme. Another great aspect is the monster placement. Also the slaughter maps are pretty neat to play, like map26 and map30. The only negative point is map28 as I couldn't finish it withouth cheating...

I really liked the short and difficult levels towards the end. They provided a good challenge while not being tedious to retry if failed. The long difficult ones (29,30) were good too, but nothing unique. (lots of levels like that in AV, HR, and HR2 :P) 5/5 because this wad has some of my favorite levels.

This was the first megawad I had ever tried from the Doomworld top 100 list. Good times! ~vf

Now this is what I call great quality! The mapping was very good and the gameplay was well balanced; the first levels are very easy and the last levels (especially 26, 28 and 30) are very hard. Another thing I like about this megawad is that the levels are short and sweet. The challenge is quite different from Hell Revealed, Alien Vandetta and Deus Vult, but it gets more similar in the last levels, and that is what makes Scythe unique. Download this now! 5/5

Best megawad ever made. Not a single level in this map feels unfinished or overdone. The maps are interesting, and the gameplay is top notch. Even in the last few levels, where you're fighting hundreds of monsters at a time, the levels still flow smoothly. If garbage like cutscenes and gimmicky scripting is what you're after, go download Zdoom maps. If you want to be "WOW'ed" by big open spaces with stupid amounts of monsters, go play Deus Vult. If you want to play Doom, download this.

When the description says the difficulty rises as you go through the maps and the last few should challenge even the best, they really mean it. Playing this wad with brutal doom made it almost impossible to get past the last few maps. I had to recruit a few friends and play co-op. Much fun was had!

Fantastic quality, tons of fun, memorable, great "hell" maps. This is one of my favorite wads of all time, if you're looking for a megawad then THIS is one you should try. I love the last map.

One of the best megawads ever.. Even though it's short, gets pretty hard at the end and has small maps, the atmosphere is guaranteed.. 9.5/10 -spadeKing23-

this is a mockery of two of the best wads of all time.  on top of that gameplay sucks.  don't get it for your sake.

Another solid mapset that captures the PSX version feel perfectly. Maps comes in all flavors, from techbases and urban areas to the menacing void and, of course, HELL and also has some unexpected secrets which you might play it to see. Of course, I absolutely love the PSX version of Doom and this one is no exception. Gameplay speaking, it's pretty balanced and thought out nicely...with ambushes, good monster placement and really nasty traps which you must avoid it at all costs. One thing that will help you a lot is the addition of a new weapon...seriously, that thing is powerful...check it out and try. Maps have a nice look that helps you to be inmersed in the atmosphere and coupled with the music, it's much better.   Great recommendation, give it a try and you'll have a fun time.

Since I tested the map, I can say that playing it again it still surprises me the amount of effort and detail of the gameplay used, like a lot of portals, clever effects like the one used before you pick up the yellow key saying nope and many nice references including a special secret. Gameplay itself for combat is pretty straightforward with some nasty stuff for you in the Nightmare difficulty. Try that out by all means. Really solid stuff which I totally recommend you folks and play it.

When first reading this wad's description I thought this will be a 1994 style map, where someone just tried to recreate his office building to shoot up his colleages. Boy, was I wrong!   Going Down emerged as one of my favourite megawads so far, with its very clever use of small to medium map space and interesting gameplay mechanics in every single map. The first couple of maps start innocent enough, but soon you will find yourself navigating literal crawl spaces, thinking about use of space and / or slight puzzle mechanics just before being thrown into hell itself and fighting for your life. Going Down is designed as a literal descent into hell, which was the most beautifully realized aspect of it. How every map slightly changes into a more and more hellish theme is just great, great design work. Even though the later maps delve into slaughter territory I must admit that I still quite enjoyed it. Actually this was the first time I enjoyed being slaugthered and figuring out how to approach the map.   Going Down is simply an amazing piece of work, oozing quality from start to finish and rewarding the player with incredible elevator music inbetween. A must play.
