About This File

A 32 level megawad for doom2. This megawad doesn't have perfect texture alignment, insane detail and fantasticly hard gameplay. Instead it focuses on small fun maps to blast through without much thought about defense. The difficulty rises steadily as you go through the maps and the last few should challenge even the best.

First 3rd: average. Second 3rd: Pretty damn good. Third 3rd: Legendary. (3 + 4 +5 )/3 = 4 stars.

Definitely in my top5 of best WADs ever. It has short and powerful maps, with well thought-out layout and seriously one of the greatest atmospheres I've ever encountered in a Doom WAD. Map19 is probably my most favorite map ever, but that's also due to the song which fits perfectly to the theme. Another great aspect is the monster placement. Also the slaughter maps are pretty neat to play, like map26 and map30. The only negative point is map28 as I couldn't finish it withouth cheating...

I really liked the short and difficult levels towards the end. They provided a good challenge while not being tedious to retry if failed. The long difficult ones (29,30) were good too, but nothing unique. (lots of levels like that in AV, HR, and HR2 :P) 5/5 because this wad has some of my favorite levels.

This was the first megawad I had ever tried from the Doomworld top 100 list. Good times! ~vf

Now this is what I call great quality! The mapping was very good and the gameplay was well balanced; the first levels are very easy and the last levels (especially 26, 28 and 30) are very hard. Another thing I like about this megawad is that the levels are short and sweet. The challenge is quite different from Hell Revealed, Alien Vandetta and Deus Vult, but it gets more similar in the last levels, and that is what makes Scythe unique. Download this now! 5/5

Best megawad ever made. Not a single level in this map feels unfinished or overdone. The maps are interesting, and the gameplay is top notch. Even in the last few levels, where you're fighting hundreds of monsters at a time, the levels still flow smoothly. If garbage like cutscenes and gimmicky scripting is what you're after, go download Zdoom maps. If you want to be "WOW'ed" by big open spaces with stupid amounts of monsters, go play Deus Vult. If you want to play Doom, download this.

When the description says the difficulty rises as you go through the maps and the last few should challenge even the best, they really mean it. Playing this wad with brutal doom made it almost impossible to get past the last few maps. I had to recruit a few friends and play co-op. Much fun was had!

Fantastic quality, tons of fun, memorable, great "hell" maps. This is one of my favorite wads of all time, if you're looking for a megawad then THIS is one you should try. I love the last map.

One of the best megawads ever.. Even though it's short, gets pretty hard at the end and has small maps, the atmosphere is guaranteed.. 9.5/10 -spadeKing23-

There are many really boring, boring maps early on... Also, a "motif": 5 doors, 4 of them cannot be opened, you go through the only openable door A, press switch that opens door B, go through door B, press switch, ... this is repetitive when there are no memorable fights or anything fancy to look at. Also, there are HOMs and instances of two monsters at the same spot = stuck.   Now, the positives. MAP08 = funky textures. MAP12, fantastic non-linear (finally!) adventure. MAP19, somewhat modified award-winning Polygon Base (there's an arch-vile and the monster count is slightly up, but I don't know why is the map recycled like that; anyway, it's very good), MAP20, short and sweet and good-looking and MAP25: for me it is like a proto- Suspended in Dusk! Not very challenging, slow gameplay, but the layout of this grey base rocks. I was so lost, and I enjoyed it. Overall, not as bad as I thought after first 11 maps.

Good maps, most of them ended up in Skulltag later on (as in, 2004-2005 lol). A solid wad that frankly deserves more play time, even in the year 2021.

this really deserves much more attention than it gets! it definitely has its fair share of negatives like cryptic progression, symmetry, etc, but for the time it's actually very good. the visuals are very nice with interesting architecture and good lighting, and despite not being balanced for pistol start very well the combat is great fun nonetheless.

it's like if the casali brothers got their hands on skillsaw's kamikaze soldiers   srsly tho, for 1995 this wad is pretty vicious. the moeller brothers love to throw some real nasty shit at you on the regular, but despite that it still remains very fun (albeit somewhat frustrating at times). the levels all look decent for 1995, and the spritework for the new enemies and textures is quite good as well. aside from a few specific things (the beginning of map06 for example) there's not really any genuinely bad things about the megawad. if you're a fan of older stuff then i highly recommend this mapset - it's not as refined as later stuff the moellers worked on like memento mori, but it's still great fun.
