Nostromo's Run for DOOM ][

About This File

Nostromo's Run takes place in an isolated station aboard some alien planet. The base was used for fighter training and mutant entertainment and features a large arena. Humans were being brought to this pleasure ground for the mutants amusement.

As a specially skilled warrior, your assignment is as follows: You will be teleported into the cellar of the main complex. You (and any you wish to have join you) are to clean out the complex of all mutants. Our intelligence sources state that the area is literally infested with all kinds of cretins so your mission will be a tough one. Ultimately, you should make your way to the arena; a large open area of which no human has escaped. Our sources also say that getting to the arena is no easy task. The base includes a large maze that can be quite confusing with shifting floors. But, I know that with your special training, you can hack it.

Nostromo's Run took me a year to complete and it's my first wad. I put so much time and energy into it that, at the time, I did not believe that I would be making a sequel. But because of the stupendous feedback I've received over the last few months, I've begun building a Nostromo's Run II and more sequeals are now in the planning stages. See details below on the Nostromo's Run Project.

Thanks for checking it out and I hope you like it. Feedback greatly appreciated

Read the reviews here before then I thought about trying this one. Wow, this is very simple and nice map from old, with lots of pickups at the early stage and the health amount is also okay. I found the traps are not that deadly, it's fun fighting all those things when you are well equipped. Though I couldn't beat it in one go on UV, the second try it was all good. Absolutely a nice one!

That was a lot of fun! Looks good, flows good, and has plenty of resources even for uv players.
The text file challenged to beat it in one go, but sadly I goofed on the final arena area. Beat it the next day though.

I saw all those positive reviews, and wanted to see for myself what all the fuss was about. You could sum it up as "1995 at its best". This feels and plays like a modern map in every respect.

Gameplay wise, despite all the anticipation of deadly traps etc. this is actually a very approachable map, even on UV. Ammo and weaponry is definitively NOT a problem here, and, considering how early you can acquire the Plasma Rifle and BFG, you can overpower pretty much anything that comes in your way. Even the final battle, which should have been epic with a Cyberdemon and SM present, looks comically easy today, with the experience of decades of slaughtermaps and two-shotting with the BFG. The only real threat, health-wise, comes from the relative scarcity of armor and the many hitscanners pecking at your health from afar. So, if you are looking for a hard map/a challenge, this might not be the map for you, esp. considering its length.

My only real gripes are the lack of secrets (or at least the presence of unmarked secrets, as certain areas could definitively quality), and a considerable amount of backtracking/switch hunting (I admit I was kinda lost after acquiring the blue key, and even resorted to opening the map in DB).

95' demon-aliens, one year of work, first wad, epic adventure. From the basement to the arena. A long way full of surprises.

A pretty cool old level with a lot of varied and creatively designed locales, including some nasty traps at the beginning. The progression is a bit obscure at times and the penultimate section with the Icon of Sin-textured wall is more annoying than anything, but overall great job.

It gets a little convoluted at times, I got a little lost. But reasonably interesting still.

4/5 Very large level but the author wisely used teleporters to ease travel and the layout and battles are very nice and coherent. The finale is good, with a battleground that won't become trivialized with the use of the Invulnerability powerups. My only complaint is that there is WAY too much ammo here on UV. All in all, pretty darn good. - KMX E XII

well balanced, a bit underdetailed at times (hey it's from 95). Very nice "classic" 4/5 - PerOxyd

A '95 wad that gives many newer creations a run for their money, a truly great classic. Play with -fast for an up to date challenge. 5/5

A lot of creative scenarios in this one, with a fun chaotic finish. An invulnerability and a megasphere are both perfectly placed in separate fights... For 1995, this is a top-tier wad. The visuals are, of course, rough, but given the era the wad was designed in, it gets a free pass. An abundance of ammo and health make this a fun one to play with wreckless abandon, and probably fun to demo too. 4.5/5 - Snakes

Large, fun level from 1995. It's not pretty, but the layout is good and the battles are action-packed on UV. The only part I didn't like was the room with the Icon of Sin textures and the weird staircases. It was too bland and repetitive. 4/5

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.

What the actual f*ck is this map. I love having 4 rockets, a shit ton of bullets and like 10 shotgun shells to take out a revenant, and whatever was in that cage. Doesn't look too bad, maybe this negativity is cus im no expert, also rather unskilled at the game?
