About This File

NUTS3.WAD, The story continues... You buy a single black balloon with white stars on it for your grandmother's birthday. As you walk out of the balloon store, something happens. The balloon starts to grow in size. Bigger and bigger. Until it's so big that it pops, and from within it, an ancient world spills out over your reality and all your consiousness slips into it's dark shoes.

You're in the middle of a bloody huge sea of demons, on an ancient meteorite. There is a weird tower to the west, also ancient it seems, which may be your ticket out of this fested, putrid vertex riddled world. All the other directions are blocked.

There is a gun and a backpack near you.

I think it's the framing. When you turn left and see that tower with the star pillar set against that sky.... it's something else.

Completely unplayable 'hé look, more than 12000 monsters in an open area and no place to hide' map. 1* for the visuals.

Hey BRPD made an awsome mod (not a nuts title). The Nuts are so funny. But BRPD 2007 computer can run over 3-5 frames now. Make a map with 50k or 100k monsters and it will rock. Nuts 3 itself is a bit crappier than nuts. still 5/5

This wad is really quite crappy. I'm no fan of joke wads , and I didn't notice any of this so called atmosphear. It had some intresting fetaures but nothing that makes it worth downloading.

Under 1 FPS on my PC (Athlon 64 3800+, 2GB RAM, RADEON 4670). Maybe it become playable if major ports like ZDoom or Doomsday would be modified to fully exploit double/quad/multi core, but I don't think the developers of the ports would do that just to make this (and very few similar WADS) playable. Dah...

I hate how those stuck up brazilian assholes say they are so leet at doom, they say they can beat any level 100% everything Tyson without any cheats. LET'S SEE JUST HOW FUCKING 1337 THEY ARE PLAYING NUTS III!

Okay, I'm writing this on 6/29/11 .. My system is a Quadcore with 8 gigs of RAM. This still runs like ass in zdoom. The concept is amusing, nonetheless.

Honestly, I don't think the WAD deserves a low rating, per se. I think the narrow accesability of VERY fast computers is to blame. I can imagine having so much fun playing this if I had a better computer...

More of the same stuff as in Nuts and Nuts2, with a new twist. What can I say? If you liked the first two... --1/5

PRBoom runs this like a charm in 2013. GREAT map. I think it is impossible without cheats and without crowdsurfing. Let me know if anyone can beat it.

Many of these reviews are years old, sure, but I think it's worth noting that ZDoom isn't the fastest source port on the block. On my system, ZDoom will play this map at approx. 1 fps, but load it in PrBoom+/GLBoom+, and it's beautiful.

Even after I spent 15 min killing all the monsters at 1 frame per second, a pack of archviles was released and pinned me up against the ceiling of the level! Damn! 1/5 -r_rr

this is the kind of level that everyone should see at least once if not to marvel at the immense amount of monsters standing before a starry shrine

I think this is the future of Doom maps. It all started with Plutonia MAP32. http://bejiitas_wrath.tripod.com/index.htm

Once I alert all the monsters to my presence, the frame rate immediately drops down to about (guessing) 10 fps...and I have an i5 core. I know it's obviously not the best processor we have nowadays, but hot damn. This wad does a number, literally. Great looking mod, though! I can beat the first and second ones, but I can't do this one for very long at all.

Really good puzzle map in a big dark metal/stone building. It catches the atmosphere of Bob Evans' Eternal Doom stuff, and I think there are even some homages to some other Eternal Doom maps as well (for example, the big two-layered outdoor area looks a bit like the "amusement park" in MAP26).   In my experience the puzzles were a bit easier than in "Silures" or "Excalibur", but it's possible that having played a lot of puzzle map stuff since I played Eternal Doom, having played through the whole canon of Bob Evans and Jim Flynn, and liking to search for Doom secrets in every map has made me recognize certain tropes better. The puzzles I liked most were (the spoilers only give minor hints):
Gameplay is good too, at the start ammo is scarce so the chainsaw and berserk are your friend, and midtiers say hello from the start on, but hitscanners are the biggest threat. Rockets should be saved for archviles until you find the first larger cache.   9,5/10

Fun, challenging set of maps that looks much better than you might expect for the time it was made. These maps will still slap you around a bit on HMP if you're not staying sharp. The author is fond of Chaingunner ambushes which keep you on your toes. I didn't find the SSG until around MAP05, which was cool, I like when its not given out too early. Pistol-starting the last two maps is pretty tough, but doable.   The map designs do a really good job of letting the player see crucial areas from different angles through progression and the layouts are really tidy overall, and feel a bit more modern than a lot of other 94/95 maps I've played. There are some really nice large-scale vistas (like the start of MAP06), nice uses of verticality and a good mixture of tight and more open combat.   Recommended!

Spectacular visuals and engaging combat make this an absolute must play. There's a puzzle with a "Shoot the thing" answer that kind of comes out of left field and can be an easy place to get stuck if you're not on your toes, but that hardly stops the map from being a thrilling masterpiece.

E3M9's refrain of back-tracking to a church for keys is a little tedious, and there are a few moments where things can become a frustrating key/switch hunt as you figure out what to do next, but aside from that, this an intense and rewarding adventure with beautiful lighting and architecture.
