The short version:

E1M1 done MAP01 style.

The longer version:

I'm not sure where I got the idea from exactly, but I decided I'd have a go at recreating the original Doom E1M1 in the style of Doom 2 MAP01. In that I think I've succeeded, although there is a little bit more detail in this than the original levels of either Doom 1 or 2, and I couldn't resist using a couple of new flats in places.

After I'd finished the layout, I realise I might as well have ago at improving the gameplay a bit. After all, I know it's the easiest setting, but a grand total of FOUR enemies on I'm Too Young To Die? Now there's 19 on this setting, 32 on medium and 47 on hard.

DM has also been given a fair bit of consideration, and you should find it plays considerably differently than Doom E1M1. Perhaps the most important difference is that the central outdoor area now serves as a crossroads rather than a dead end.

BTW, listen closely and even the E1M1 music has been slightly changed to more closely match the music from MAP01. Ditto for the sky.

A good idea well-executed. Unfortunately, Doom 2's aesthetic sucks a bit in comparison to Doom and this map proves it.

Perfect in just about every respect. To those complaining that it's too short and too easy: well, so are E1M1 and MAP01, so that's the whole point. --5/5

I am impressed! This level somehow manages to remind of two starting maps of different games at the same time, which actually made it feel like something new and still nostalgic. I would be very pleased to see more maps with similar idea. ****

It's a nice little blend - like coffee! It felt a bit open at times which kind of ruined the progression, but everything else is pulled off excellently. 4 stars. - Obsidian

A mapper's map,those aren't my favourites but found myself at home looking for secrets of map01 and in the next room for those of e1m1. It's so close too perfection.Another thing I like is the scale, here it's the one of e1m1 but in his other maps as well the scale is always right.If that's undefined it's about the ideal size of a toy car.Kesslers map have their own grand scale, Romero's map have it, Ritenours (vast) but most maps are wrong on this.A recreation of slayer by him would make my week

One of the best levels I have played in a VERY long time. There are only two gripes: 1: Too damn short 2. Too damn easy!!!!!! (kinda caused by problem 1.)

I wish there would have been more interest in this, because it is an awesome idea of the author that constantly invokes the feeling you are playing Map01 just with the E1M1 layout. This is a 5 star idea (and thus wad), but even counting only Doom I and II, and not secret levels, there are 960 different ways this can be done, yet this is the only way it actually ever HAS been done, even 9 years later. How about the other 959? Maybe this should be an idea for a community project!

Clever concept, familiar areas from E1M1 and MAP01 seamlessly integrated together, textured in Doom 2's brown/green/water style. Some secrets have changed from walk-triggers to switches, so keep your eyes open. Sadly, there's no barrels in the finish room, that was the best part of E1M1! 4/5

      A few really good maps supported by a bunch of alright ones. Visuals are mostly Plutonia-inspired, with the occasional veering into Shores of Hell type mish-mash architecture. Difficulty is about on par with DOOM2.wad I think. Overall, a rather pedestrian affair, although the standout maps are certainly worth the time.

      BACK TO SATURN X E1: GET OUT OF MY STATIONS REVIEW:   The Good:   - Stunning visuals   - Great monster placement   - Lots of (clever) secrets and they are rewarding   - Enough ammo to keep you going   - The names of the Maps LOL!   - Loads of fun   - Awesome music!   The Bad:   - Not long enough. LOL! I loved it so much, I didn't want it to end!   In Short: I've actually played this fantastic WAD at least 6 or 7 times. Why? This is my second favorite WAD of all time, only bested by its successor, BTSX Episode 2: Fountain of Sparks. I remember the very first time I played it a couple of years ago like it was yesterday. How many times can you say that (in a good way) about a game?   I remember being completely blown away by the architectural designs at the time. I even remember giggling as I sunk in the ocean on the final Map, only to read something like "To Be Continued..." and thinking, "Awww....it's over." But I admit that, like everyone else, I had loads of fun with this.    There is lack of a "customary" final boss (I wasn't certain if this was a "Good" or "Bad" element of the game, hence why it's in neither category above - it really will depend on the player so I kept it neutral). But don't let that deter you! The final "stage" in the last (playable) Map is as memorable as it is wicked, and it'll keep you on your toes just like any other customary boss!   Play this WAD if it's the only WAD you ever play. Definite replay value.   Well deserved Cacoward. Thanks, Team, for making it!   5 out of 5 stars with me.  ~ dylux

      JENESIS REVIEW:   - Single Player - UV Settings - Pistol starts every Map - Third time playing in about 4-5 years span   The Good:    - Continuous Maps    - Great architecture    - Incredible Hellish themes    - Excellent monster placement    - Clever puzzles    - Loads of secrets. Most are clever as well.    - Great music    - Lots of stuff to get you alive and stocked    - Levels are just the right size. Not small nor are they huuuuuuge.    - Not a slaughterfest, but not easy either. Difficulty is perfect for single player.   The Bad:     - There's no Jenesis II.    In short:   Sometimes, finding a new DooM WAD to play is like finding a decent horror movie to watch: You're going to go through a few crappy ones before you find one that makes it all worthwhile. Jenesis is one of those WADS to play that's worth going through some crappy ones first.   If you are looking for a great balance between dog fighting and puzzle solving, then Jenesis is for you. This game was fun as hell - every level.    Anyone who plays this can easily tell that MUCH work went into this fantastic game. It's WADs like this one that keep me playing. Bravo Mr. Paddock!   You have huge shoes to fill, Jenesis - for my next WAD I play. One of my all time faves. Well deserved Cacoward. What a game! :)   5 out of 5 Stars.

      The best thing to come out of 90s mapping by a long shot, in fact Memento Mori II is probably among the top 10 megawads ever even now, and certainly the only release from the pre-Alien Vendetta era about which I would dare to make such a claim.   The level design here is far tighter and far more professional than that of the first Memento Mori, the only potential exception to this rule being the somewhat strange "Base Exposure". You can trust that there are no baffling offerings in the vein of "Kinetics" or "Cesspool" to be found here. Superior level design aside, visual and thematic progression throughout the Megawad is also far better organized.   As a matter of fact, aside from the comparatively lower difficulty and pervasive presence of puzzle-like level progression, Memento Mori II often feels just as well-conceived and dynamic as a modern PWAD would, making it far, far ahead of its time is that sense.   It is quite unfortunate then, that among the three Megawads released by the Memento Mori crew, those being Memento Mori, Memento Mori II and Requiem, this second installment is by far the least frequently praised and certainly the least frequently played. As it turns out, it is by far the most challenging, but also, more importantly, the most consistently GOOD of the three.

      wow this was...mostly annoying, utilizing such tropes such as low ammo, lots of running around just trying to find the best weapon to choose, and mancubus snipers. I felt trolled. at least Jimmy is a good mapper though. MAP30 was the best map overall.
