About This File

It's that old cliche'd Doom storyline where a bunch of scientists (even though they look like marines) are doing those damned gateway experiments again! Only this time you aren't pulled into Hell...

Neat little tech demo of every ZDoom feature under the sun, absolutely terrible gameplay. There are too many issues to list, but the oddest is that teleporters pretty much always face you the exact opposite of the way you're intended to go. Literally why? Who would ever think of doing things like that?

And extremely grating music as well.

needed work in the gameplay department -- lots of annoying jumping sections and bad enemy placement. however, this wad exhibits amazing atmosphere and visuals that still look good even today. in fact I didn't believe that this was released in 2003 until I looked at the upload date; it felt like something somebody would have made today. 3/5 would have been an easy 5/5 if the gameplay wasn't so bad.

This is a mixed bag - graphics, music, atmosphere, all that is great, and I mean GREAT, it's one of the weirdest and coolest wads I've ever played. This is crippled heavily by gameplay, jumping sections are annoying and sometimes you get teleported to a small place only to be butchered by monsters behind you. There are many interesting ideas and it feels very unique and fresh even today. If it wasn't for the bad gameplay, this would probably be one of the most memorable wads of all time.

Void is certainly one of the most avant-garde maps ever made. the jumping is actually not bad for once and the fist was upgraded. I liked literally everything in this map, perhaps the biggest change was the fists, which while functional to Hexen's gauntlets, allow for more range, and it's perfect for conserving ammo. punching imps is pretty easy to do. the Hexen enemies are actually pretty easy to tangle in Void with the Doom arsenal, the new Unmaker actually functions like a Phoenix Rod from Heretic. I guess the weapon progression is good enough, the plasma gun is a better choice against the cyber than the other guns at the time.

overall though, Void's combat is a bit lackluster, as it makes way for puzzle stuff that involves ZDoom's jumping abilities plus having to go back and forth. Hexen-like, naturally. remember to place those skull keys on that altar each time, but also look out for all sorts of nasty traps. the corridor to the cyberdemon battle is probably the worst kind, while others like the shrinking puzzle and fighting the spiders is unique (remember to get the gear and put it in the switch box, and then use the switch even though your guy says "guess I'm too small to use this switch"). the endgame is basically watching your step as you head all the way down, make sure to do so, and the Heresiarch battle is somewhat of a hit, the stupid troll floors are dumb, and there's likely bouts of waiting because he loves throwing up the invincibility cubes, this battle is somewhat rough around the edges but it isn't too terrible. all of this in one large, pretty map too. great work.

If God doesn't know lust, he isn't all-knowing. If God does know lust, he isn't all-good. Flawless map!

Reminds me of the agonizingly boring puzzles of Hexen. This is not DooM.

Looks awesome but I stopped playing after falling for 50 somethingth time. The jumping required to beat this map is something reminiscent of a Half-Life type of game which doom isn't. That is PAINFULLY ANNOYING and b'cuz of that I give this 1/5. Architecture is lovely and of course the opening scene is well done.

3/5. If the rating was only for looks, I'd give this 5/5 stars, but the gameplay isn't exactly great... And as many others have said, the jump puzzles are very annoying. A sequel with more thought put into gameplay would be just great. :)

I find using the chasecam to be useful in the jumping sequences. Everything about this wad is legendary, even if you hate jumping.

this wad is pretty cool just played through it i think they should design some more levels like this and turn it into a megawad! be for some interesting playing =] i also found an awsome rar file by which it had all the classic dooms so far and heretic shadow of the serpant riders, heretic, hexen, hexen 2 + its mission pack and strife! and they all play fine on xp! that was a find and a half! i also intend to find quake I + its mission pack on rar =] keep dooming guys!

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.
