Look. I know that many people enjoyed playing this MegaWAD due to what it is, but for me, when compared to Icarus: Alien Vanguard, Daedalus: Alien Defense felt like a slap to the face.

It does look good, but this is the only subject that I will have mostly positive things to talk about.

The music isn't too bad but the restriction to like 6 or 7 tracks makes me sick of listening to it (not to mention how they are short for such maps IMO).

While I don't mind hub-style gameplay, here, it kind of feels like it requires licking off every part of a map to find one item/terminal/switch to go further.

The difficulty might feel easy (most of the time, on HMP) but artificially increasing it with stealth enemies and respawning enemies as more of a punishment for not knowing where to go sucks out my enjoyment tremendously.

Not to mention how it feels unfinished with missing textures here and there, and how the end of Daedalus feels completely from a different WAD, with custom monsters and a new weapon that we don't use until MAP32.

As I said, Daedalus might look good by the end of 2003, and it may have interesting moments but I don't think I'll touch this MegaWAD ever again. There are dozens of better WADs/maps than this one.

Would've far preferred an actual sequel to Icarus that was boom compatible.

Great scripting and use of zdoom features, nice new music and textures, huge maps and long playtime. But boring and confusing, with high amount of bugs. It could be much better than this. Sorry. 3,5/5 - Damned

Impressive scenarios. Gameplay is not the best. And weird but some monsters like those snails looks very shitty for such long time proyect and tnt team history. But Anyway minimum rating 4/5

For what seems to be everyone, Daedalus is either a hit or miss. Some enjoy the new approach to doom with less monster oriented game-play (although demons are far from absent in this wad)and others just get bored as soon as it starts and flip on Hell Revealed just to revive themselves from the slumber brought on by Daedalus. I found many cons from the textures to the repetitive puzzles of consoles and power supplies. The game should of stopped after taking the ship to the land.

A Quake 2/Half-Life fusion megawad it ain't. It may not be as good as Icarus since its more puzzle solving than run n' gun action, but its pretty innovative and the level design was well thought out. Gameplay is more like Half-Life, but a whole lot better (4/5). T-Rex

It's trying to change the core gameplay of Doom and doing what all other games do today. That is an auto 0.

Hmm. It must have taken ages to do. But it kept irritating me - the level transitions, the autosaving, charging the translator, and the staircases on the engineering level. It's not System Shock, as one of the other people says, it's a half-way house. Like a prog rock album, it's technically impressive but a bit blah. Needs more punk.

Impressive, but this is frustrating. I got confused and lost trying to figure out where to go and what to do. The textures weren't that great either. This was a disappointing wad from such talented mappers.

Textures and graphics are pretty bad. Level design is quite repetetive and the story is not very good. Scripting and size is impressive. The travel tubes are really nice, although they too get tiresome at the end since they for some reason are the same over the whole wad. And sounds are pretty cool. Gameplay is pretty bland too. And I really hate the ending. This is mediocre at best. 3/5 Kristus

Icarus: Alien Vanguard was better in terms of gameplay. The level design is a little better, but more confusing and with tons of backtracking which brought down the fun factor exponentionally. Perhaps this was the true precursor to KDiZD??? 2/5

I remember being extremely excited when this came out . While being extremely well executed and technically brilliant for its' day, it has one major problem which made me stop playing this quite early. It's the lack of flow in the gameplay. If this would have been streamlined a little more, this _could_ have been one of the best wads ever made. Judging it in its' released state it's such a two-bladed sword blasting it into severe mediocrity. Doubt I will ever attempt to beat this. 3/5 -- Shockwav3

Visually very impressive but overall dissapointing. RTC-3057 beat daedalus in story, visuals, and scripting. 4 stars.
