About This File

An addon for Doom2 ZDOOM with three new levels, new music/graphics, lots of ACS scripts, a dehacked patch and a storyline. These maps were made with the concept of claustrophobia in mind, hence the name. Don't expect to have plenty of space to dodge. On a side note, this is the first wad in which I experiment with STARTAN textures.

had the fights been better and the scripted cutscenes and boss fights not take too much playtime it would have been great. I get bored really quickly when the teleporting monsters keep coming and I get angered when I can't get through bigger ones.

The only reason I play this is because of the boss fights. They boast great challenge as well as look beautiful. These boss battles need to be in other WADs, and there will be at least one in B4NM. ~Nambona890

Feh. Shows a good technical grasp of Zdoom, and the levels get better after the first one. But it's marred by child-level dialogue (which reminds me more of Brak than the hardbitten action hero the author probably intended) and an irritating, claustrophobic design. I realise this is intentional; but that's no defence. The BTK killer's crimes were intentional and it doesn't make them any less reprehensible.

excellent mod, very imaginative and creative. The design is excellent (from tech to hell), the gameplay is rather OK but the bosses tend to get boring and ultra repetitive (minus one star) 4/5 - PerOxyd

Nice level design with serious difficulty spikes. Ruined by retarded so-not-Doom boss fights. The last one is virtually unplayable, my framerate is like 0.5 FPS due to millions of particles flying everywhere. I wasn't able to beat it even on God mode.

Legendary. I LOVE this wad, the Bosses and the scripting is fucking awesome!! And I loved that you included a plot, it contributed to the atmosphere a lot! I can only say one thing: Virgil, you're a new doom god!

great detail -- especially in the hell maps. and some really cool scripting at the end. but on the whole it fits its name too well, the level design is boring on the whole, and the gameplay is pretty lame at points (i honestly wasn't sure it would ever let me out of the start of map04 and was tempted to clip). but the detail and scripting were really good so it made up for it somewhat.

Good stuff although there are several flaws. Nothing that can't be fixed in the future. Flaw 1: The nature of the maps. No space 2 move :( Flaw 2: The story is weak. Flaw 3: The boss battles, though contain spectacular effects, are too repetative for their own good. Flaw 4: No new weapons.

This wad is definately a legand. Although it contained illegal MP3s and OGGs (and the fact that my computer slowed down at times), "Claustrophobia: The Walls Close In" is not just a wad which should only be played by true Doom Gods, but it makes Gradius 3 look like a cakewalk. Well done, Virgil. --Kirby X

I really don't like this one. Atmosphere and music are good, but gameplay just sucks. Beating an archvile in a tight hallway with no escape with a shotgun is more relied on luck than skill - if he goes to pain state or not. There are many battles I just don't like to undertake, that unenjoyable it is.

Oh my God. I worship the very ground you walk on Virgil. Legendary, no doubt at all. The fights, the atmosphere... you've created a masterpiece that should go down in Doom history. Please, don't stop here! --EarthQuake *****

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.
