Very, very deep sight. Stunning ambiance, and then the guy throws-in a bunch of invisible monsters (like arachnotrons) in open areas... Which is IMHO by far the worst and cheapmost, not to say: lazy, way to make a map more difficult. 4.5* for the architecture - 2* for the laziness = small 3*. It's a real pity.

A hard and challenging and very atmospheric map in a really hellish city environment. The map is not overly large but still rather complex and has some very tricky battles. The only lowpoint for me was the dexterity proof to get the BFG. I hate puzzles like these and that's the only point where I cheated, except for the final battle, which I couldn't finish with some extra ammo and an invincibility sphere. But all the rest is great and worth a download! 4.5/5 -Milian

The wad is great. Captures Blood's style really good. It's hard, and therefor good. To the above author-Bell, try playing a higher difficulty level if it's boring, and it lacks health because it's hard :P -N

One of the best WADs I've had the pleasure of playing. The hellish city is beautifully and intricated designed and appropriately lighted for an eerie, apocalytpic effect. There are 6 keys to find, and that's a nice touch; it adds challenge to the game, and it is kind of like a big puzzle. The music is chilling! It really made me apprehensive whenever I went into an unexplored building or room. 5/5!

this is a really boring city-styled map. gameplay doesn't meet detail here. not what i expected from the author of TNT:LE, one of the most perfectly balanced maps for ZDoom. didn't like the music also. again, not what i expected after playing ROTGS. it fits the map 'cause it's just as boring. boring and hard with not enough health to go around is the worst way to go. also, is there a bug with the purple key or am i really allowed to jump for it. 3/5 - Belial

Oh, wow! This map is much better than the TNT series, in fact I'd say it's one of the best maps I've played recently! I love a good city-style map...

If you pull this up in an editor you might notice that almost all of the lines are block sound. 9/15/07

I'm in two minds about this. One the one hand it looks great, with atmospheric graphics and some ambient sounds. And it is fun. But it's very monotonous. I like action as much as anyone but at least at the start this is just bang... bang... bang... bang with the shotgun for five minutes as swarms of enemies get you. There's generally enough health and ammo, it's just not a very subtle level given that it looks so well-crafted.

Reminds me of the epic qualities of level 29 of Doom 2, but extended into the modern day. This has as much gameplay as an entire Doom 1 episode. If the people of 1995 could see it now, they'd be amazed at how much can be done with user-modified versions of Doom. This is fun enough just to wander around in, with gorgeous textures and sounds. Significantly it doesn't have an "intro movie" and as far as I could see there were no toilets, no bathroom, no mock television.

This WAD is hard and challenging but it's SO AMAZING and unique looking with all the dark themes! That's what people call a creative hard-working expanded map. If only I knew what the name of the song was and from what game/movie/etc.

pretty badass map, although not as good as the "apocalypse" version which had more atmosphere and new stuff. the author could tell us that jumping is required for at least one portion of the map. also there's a glaring HOM on the crates with the BFG.

DOOM: Awesome, Episode 1. For me, it was worth playing this episode because I particularly like Episode Replacements!   Just now getting to know Giest118 thanks to this level design work, I realized that he is very talented in organizing symmetrical layouts in a consistent way, like well-placed and built rooms, which really makes you recognize good architectural work on the maps, and in my gameplay, that was what I noticed the most potential in overall.   However, this episode lacks a lot of elements in general, and they are quite specific, since this episode is not bad, but I would enjoy it more if it executed those specific elements better, such as: enemy positioning, texturing, charisma, etc.   The enemy positioning really isn't that pleasant, with them being placed repeatedly, thus making the combat monotonous and extremely predictable many times.   And although the texturing is far from being considered bad, it rarely reveals details and a very high quality positioning, we rarely have misaligned textures, but overall, we don't have something high level, however, being realistic, many of the details in the maps do justice to the quality, but not enough.   We had very good moments here and there most of the time, nothing incredible, the level that caught my attention the most was E1M6, this level is a classic! And it made me love the episode as a whole, however, it doesn't hold up to the quality of the entire episode alone.   The final battle was quite monotonous due to the layout, and too many heavy enemies without the player having better resources, and I dare say that it was quite disappointing to have a final fight like that, I wish it were better.   To recap more directly, the maps are good, but they are not that memorable, with many of them holding unimpressive moments, with E1M4 being a good example since it was the level that best describes what I said earlier. The enemy positioning could be better, the architecture is very good, the details are good, at times it is lacking, and it lacks more of the positive aspects that E1M6 has for example.   I can say that DOOM: Awesome, Episode 1, is an average episode, unfortunately.

Good stuff. A very pleasant surprise. I stumbled upon this by chance. Someone mentioned it and I realized it was something I had not played before. I dove right in completely blind and I'm glad I did. Not too complex or overwhelming, but with enough action to keep you consistently engaged. Right up my alley.

Appreciate the maniacal level of attention paid to texture alignment in these lo-fi E2-styled spaces. An easy, gentle appetizer for the harder WAD you'll play next.
